Radiator wont heat

Hi, our radiator in our hallway will not heat up. We have GFCH, the boiler is about a year and half old. There are 8 radiators on the system. The hall radiator appears to be the last on the chain.

We have noted that if you turn off the rad on the box room directly above the hallway, the hallway rad will heat. However turning back on the boxroom rad means the hallway rad stops working. I think the boxroom rad is the second last rad on the chain.

Any ideas on what is causing this and or how to fix it- is it the box room rad that is defective?

    many thanks

you might need to balance the rads. Was there an extension added at some stage?

Balancing means that you close the valve on the other side of the rad (i.e. the one which you don't usually turn to switch the rad on and off)
You have to do it for every rad in the house starting with the one closest to the boiler. That one would be nearly shut entirely and as you move away they are opened up a little more.

It can take quite a bit of time to get it right. you want the rad as hot as possible with the valve open as little as possible.

what type of system have you? Have you a top up tank in the attic or is it under a pressure (ball type vessal beside the boiler)? Have you tried to bleed the rad?:D

Had this exact problem. Rad headted when other rads off, but not when the other rads were on.
    Balancing sorted it.
Just going around the other rads and "fiddling" with the twisty thing on the other side of the radiator. u probably have to get a plyers or something to do this.
    But now radiator working grand.
