Just curious if anyone knows/can recommend which strings to use with a hollowbody guitar. Recently purchased a Gibson ES-165 and im not too sure what i should string it with. Any help would be much appreciated.

Regular electric strings, though since it isn't really a guitar for bending strings, the tradition would be for big strings, maybe 11's or more.

    Thanks for the help.

Yah might go with groundwounds too, if you want to keep your sound on the smoother side. Just a thought.

Sorry for taking this thread in a slightly different direction for a second, but which is the best site to get bass strings from? and is there a big difference in price between getting them online and getting them in a shop?

Picked up 3 sets of GHS boomers from thomann for €45. One set of Ernie Balls in town costs €45.

    Ebay is a winner too.

    There are.

There are plenty of ebay shops and also webstrings. Just google guitar bass strings into google.

You'd want at least '15s on that Gibson. Tuned to nothing flatter than concert pitch.

Hmmm... ill give em a shot anyway, i know that jim hall plays a similar style hollow body and often uses 11s/12s but i guess i should certainly experiment.
You're definately right about the drop tuning however, tried playing some leo kottke and michael hedges fingerstyle with it in open tunings - not a pretty sound! Love the guitar tho, fantastic for jazz, shíte for everything else!
I'll definately give groundwounds a shot too.
    Thanks for the help.
