    Ireland's Gareth McHale 6th overall in the 3rd round of the World Rally Championship in Mexico, go on ya good thing.

    Rally Ireland next week which will hopefully lead to us getting a WRC round of our own!

    It just gets better :D

    Great stuff indeed by Gareth. Let's hope he can keep it up.

    He also did the Monte Carlo back in Janurary and did ok there too.

    Well done Gareth, 6th place and the highest placed Ford !!!

    Irishman Gareth MacHale is no stranger to rallying, but this is only his second ever world championship event. This weekend he showed some of the more experienced drivers, including world rally champions, how to finish a tough event. McHale didn't put a foot wrong during the rally. His stage times were in the top ten for all but four of the rally's 16 stages and he finished the event sixth outright and the highest placed Ford. "We came here with no expectations at all," said MacHale. "It's our first gravel event in the car. It gives me a lot of confidence for the future. I'm absolutely delighted." The Irishman added that yesterday, when it sunk in how well they were actually doing, he had trouble sleeping! Tonight, it will more likely be celebrations that keep him from sleeping.

    Great job by Gareth. Okay, yes, he did have some luck in that a lot of the top drivers encountered problems over the weekend and that helped his cause admittedly but, still, he managed to pace himself well, stay out of trouble and bring the car home in one piece.......... unlike a lot of the so-called "best drivers in the world"! :D So it was a great result. Even more so considering gravel wouldn't be his best surface for driving on (he'd be more of a tarmac man, probably).

    Hopefully this will show to the FIA that we really do have some world class drivers here in this country and if Rally Ireland goes well and shows that we have both the organisational skills and the stages fit for a world-class event then perhaps that dream of a world championship round in Ireland next year will become a reality. Here's hoping! :D
