It felt as if I was being trapped. Villain has been quite passive but calls if he catches a peice of the board. He has also folded the SB a lot and hasnt called many of my preflop raises since we got HU.

You should raise less preflop, and yes I would bet that river, theres no reason to think that your opponent has a king, (or TJ) amd his most likely hand is 2nd pair or a worse queen

Is 3xBB too much HU? (I know it's impossible to be totally general but...)

I would imagine HJ means that as AQ is a monster heads up, you want him to play so something like 2.25 or 2.5 the BB is nice.

It all depends on what has been the standard raise at the table.

3bbs is too much heads up in position with those stacks. You want him to call!

Vary your play with this hand try limping on occasion, all too often in HU play when you limp, catch top pair with such a strong kicker, many opponents will rule out that you have top pair as there was no PF raise, you see many players having difficulties laying down bottom-mid pair in unraised pots HU, never ceases to amaze me.

However this does have it's draw backs, building a nice pot without giving away the strenght of your hand can be tricky.

I nice trick for when you are out of position, check the flop, players will often take stabs at pots with mid-bottom pair and min raising those stabs can often make your min-raise look like a bluff/steal attempt, if they call, check again, wait for the pot bet as your min-raise bluff has failed miserably..

Proceed to min-raise once again! Bet out the river..... 1 in 5 they will two pair/trip up etc. Sometimes you get paid, sometimes you don't.

All the above I would do in the example you provided me, if your river bet gets re-raised all in, you have a decision to make, it's J10 or a hand you beat.

Try it, it works on most mediocre HU players, it can frustrate alot of players, i.e wtf is he like min-raising....im going to show him, it's alot easier to frustrate someone in HU play than in full ring games as you are constantly at eachother.

There are many Andy Black wannabe's when it comes to HU play and you should try to extract as much money as possible from these players.

Tbh, I would not have been remotely surprised had he showed Q9/K9/<insert sh1!te hand>. I find at this level anyway (particularly in cash) that everyone assumes you are bluffing if you bet big. Works for me!;)
