RTÉ's sorry excuse for widescreen...

I was under the impression that RTÉ was transmitting in widescreen as I have seen in many programmes but I was watching a footie match that was on both RTÉ TWO and ITV1. I could notice how much more I was seeing on ITV, it was real widescreen.
Are RTÉ in 16:9 or some other format that they pretend is widescreen?

No it was widescreen but not as much as ITV, they had that little bit more on each side.

Through analogue it is in 14:9, although digitally it should be in full 16:9.

Out of curiousity - why do they show a guy who is wider than normal in the widescreen demo's ? I can't tell which version of him looks normal. Maybe they should show something like , what do you call them with the same dimensions, oh yes it's a "CIRCLE"

yeah they should really do a circle aswell, but RTEs way is by far the worst of explaining what a widescreen picture should be.

I done an example in a thread a while back about this.
