Latest Stargate was out last night. Did like this one but it was more of a build up till the next episode tbh so hopefully next one will be class. Have I missed somethin or did earth use to have 2 gates, & where is the other one?? Prity much 2 storylines in this episode.

    Opinions :D

Not too bad but nothing special really. The other stargate was lost (i think) when the replicators came to earth. SG1 beamed it abord the asgard ship and then crashed the ship into the planet.

This current series is missing something, In my view.

What is is missing I am not really sure but the older ones were better

Not too bad. Mostly setup though, so hopefully something more exciting next week. Thankfully CB's performance was a little less "kee-razy" this week, showing a bit of promise for Vala's future in the show.

As to the Russians looking for the gate back.. I thought they should have pushed further than a 304. I hope we saw more of it later on when, faced with a threat, the Russians deploy their own arsenal to great confusion.

Umm yeah. They had the Giza Gate and the Antartic Gate, with the Giza Gate being the primary one and the Antartic placed into storage. They beamed the Giza Gate aboard the replicator-infested Asgard ship at the end of S3. The ship crashed into the ocean and the gate appeared lost.

Then the SGC cracked open the Antartic Gate and used that. Meanwhile the Russians found the Giza Gate in the ocean and began using that. It was agreed then to shut down the Giza Gate because it interfered with the working of the Antartic Gate (now the primary gate). Then, I can't remember what episode (S5 perhaps?) the Antartic Gate got fired into the sun and destroyed and, begging with the Russians, they got back the Giza Gate which is now the prime sole gate used in the SGC and what the General was referring to when he talked about loaning out the gate... Phew...

Highly enjoyable episode. First one in at least 3 or so that is actually worth my opinion ;)

We all expected Vala to come back, though I like some, never imagined it would be this soon. However, when she came back she actually came back as a plot mechanic rather than an irritating side note, which I thought was nice. She was just quirky enough to be an enjoyable cast member while actually having something to add to the show, even if that was mostly clouded by horrid sexual innuendo and cheap attempts at laughs.

That said, now that we are past the halfway point and with little questions let alone answers to speak of, I reckon they could dig up ol' apophis again and it would actually improve the quality of the show.

I thought the whole story/flashback was excellently written and actually pretty exciting. Also, I was sure vala was pregnant from the opening scenes where she seemed to be walking around with a big bump, but it was nice to confirm this for me and include a nice joke at the same time.

Oh, and what is with Vala's baby? Do the Ori have a hand in it or are they actually only trying to save face? The former seems more likely as their preferred method of saving face to date has been to execute people without trial. So on that note, what part is this to play in future events. What connection is there with Arthur and the knights, with all these events. Remember, pretty much all this came about from visiting a stockpile of ancient technology left behind by him. Could it be that merlin was in fact one of the Ori. What use would an Ancient have for creating a weapon to destroy ascended beings. As far as we know they would have no use for it or more importantly, if he knew he had a use for it (killing Ori) why didnt the others share his belief? Oh and where is he? ;)

We finally get to see the second wave/big ships/gigantic fanatical army, we all keep hearing about. However, I dont believe the end of this season will be decided a single weapon, nor will they be able to convert or convince the 'Children of the Ori' that the Ori are evil/wrong. Perhaps a combination of the two but hopefully, something infinitely more subtle and complex than that. Heck, I think after this season, anything less than an apocalyptic showdown between the Ancients and the Ori in ascended form, will be a let down.

Ah well, glad somebody got something out of it. Not being a fan of either Vala or the Ori, I went for option 5. I also found it lazy on their part to pick up on a storyline that was already done and dusted - ie the Daniel/Vala thing.
Could have written this thing myself. :(
Also the whole gate thing could easily have popped up earlier in the season. At least it might have given them a storyline. Very very disappointed in it especially as there appears to be a quick fix conveniently just around the corner.

thought this episode was good (first time i have said that about a sg1 episode in ages) with nice use of vala & good story development

didnt like the ori armour, looks way too old fashioned & the weapons just look like staff weapons with pain sticks on the end of them, lazy design again

their ships look interesting, they look like they all have stargates in them & resemble those big greek war ships

Looks like I'm going to be a lone voice this week.

The whole "we've been experimenting with this communications technology for months" was crap. The Vala chocolate fudge joke was crap. The Miraculous pregnancy was crap, the Ori choose to randomly impregnate a non-believer for no apparent reason, crap. Medieval villages building super-intergalactic mega warships of death, crap. The exploding communications device of doom (was NOBODY WATCHING THE DAMNED DOOR???), crap.

All in all the episode was craptastic, not come to expect must more from SG1 these days. My appraisal of next weeks finale? Meh.

Emm what happned was the artic gate was connected to by anubis
and they straped it to a 302 and launched it into space to save the day then they got the giza gate from russians they rented it actually.

the gate into the sun was the gate from the tokra planet Doron? cant remember the name dammit

Ugh...not her again...even if she is toned down, I still feel she has no permanent place on the show.

It was a good story with some good direction.
    Definatly going somewhere next week.

Finally we're seeing the Ori as the menace they've been poorly portrayed as.

I didn't like the Russian sell off, they should have fought them instead of handing over their new X-304.

Good Bit : I thought CB and the Vala character were well used and far less annoying than usual. Good mix of humour and drama coming from her.

Bad Bits : Pretty much everything else

Another Sam gadget as a plot device - thats 2 in 2 weeks, how lazy are these writers getting?

The Russia, China withdrawing the Gate hooha would have been better done in another epsiode it was obvious they werent going to lose the Gate near to the end of the series. Especially since they can just send a 304 to collect one from another planet. Putting it between loosing the old 304 a few eps ago and getting a new 304 an episode later would have made more narrative sense - atleast there would have been some drama.

Think Dunners had it mostly spot on. Meh indeed.

Can only hope that next series they develop Vala as the funny one, and leave Cameron to develop a non-Jack O'Niell character.

    I think you're confusing Prometheus again (X-303)

Reasonably good episode - lacked action scenes which, in my opinion, is a major negative.

Vala dooesn't have a permanent place on SG-1 (As has been mentioned already). Good to see that if she has to be in it that the stupid sex jokes were toned down a lot.

The gates dont work too well when there are too on the same planet iirc ... no?

They work OK - the gate with the DHD gets priority over any other gates. I dont know what would happen if there were 2 DHD's on the same planet.

This idea was explored in season 2 (I think) where Carter and O'neill got traped in Antartica.

    They didn't work ok together.
And 'Solitudes' was from season 1.

Nope just couldnt be bothered to engage brain enough to take note of the difference.

The Ship blown up was the F-303 , and i didnt think that russia got the oddsey i thought they just got the plans for the F-304

Also i like what u said vals as the funny 1 and that guy to be himself good ider

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,673 ✭✭✭✭senordingdong

    They didn't get the Odyssey.
America had another 304 ready and they gave that to the Russians.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,357 ✭✭✭secret_squirrel

So you didn't take note of the difference but you didn't confuse them?

I was aware of the difference but couldnt be bothered to check which one was blown up vs which one was in the Pegasus galaxy.

I was actually not expecting anyone to be pedantic enough to mention it since we all knew what I was talking about.

Guess I should have known better

How's the russians gonna cope with a Asguard :D

Was the antartic gate not destroyed in the upper atmosphere ? ontop of an F302 ? when the energy weapon (the one teal`c 's kid destroyed) was used on the earth gate causing it to build up energy till it blew up?

And does anyone else not think this is being turned into a bit of a mountain out of a mole hill? with the US's fleet of hyperdrive enabled space ships they could easily have gone out and grabbed themselves a new gate, heck the russians don't even have a DHD anymore and there would be little chance of the US handing over the tech to build one.. And since no one else on earth has a DHD bringing one back in one of their ships would ensure their priority even if the russians could build something.

and sure the asguard are off worrying about emselves wouldn't make a difference to them who's got the gate on earth, they normally arrive by ship anyway....

Are the F-304's not the Daedalus Class ships that have since replaced the F-303's (Prometheus)?

Indeed. They 'sold' a 304 when all it would have cost them was a trip to another stargate planet in one.
Hell they could have brought a shiny new one back from pegasus if they wanted.

Also the russian 304 came off the production line suspiciously quickly after the last one.

Yet another example of the lazy writing in this series.

Its pretty stupid actually... they spend 1-2 episodes building up this chinese thing and then blow it all in an after thought at the end of this episode. Still, I enjoyed it.

Bored the **** out of me :( Vala's story could really have been sumed up in 10 minutes. There was really no need to drag it out for a whole episode. A flashback episode would even have more entertaining.

Agreed, the whole episode was basically geared towards giving us a glimpse of the Ori warriors and ships. Could have been done better in 5 minutes.

The ending especially annoyed me, when Daniel suddenly realises that they must now go find Merlin's weapon before it's too late. That's some fantastic deduction, sherlock. Now tell us why you were all just sitting around and weren't already out looking for it.
