Musician Inc do them, i got some there...
The place to go to is http://www.watfordvalves.com/home.asp if you don't mind buying online.

I dont mind going online, except i want them NOW:D

Musician inc didnt really seem to know what they had...

Mostly im just wondering about the crappy shops that i never go into when im in town, perfect pitch, that one near portobello bridge, or Goodwins. Im sure the guys in waltons dont even know what valves are..."would you not prefer a nice tin whistle instead?":v:

Good question. I hope to be in Musician during the week trying on some basses, but I'll try and scope out the valve collection and see what they sell.

I might beg for a job as well. Since I started working in Maplin a few weeks ago I can think of nothing but leaving! :o Can I interest you in a wireless router or a satellite dish?

Quite a few. Decent, I don't know. Reasonable cost, most certainly not. Buy from Komplett.ie. ;)

Was wandering about in town today, Music inc have a few brands, sovtek, boogie, EH etc. Nothing fancy or expensive, but the best range in town. They only had matched pairs though, im looking for single valves

    Everywhere else was rubbish...

Yeah, first of all the lad said 'yeah, no bother' and was about to split up some matched pairs (theyre boxed separately, just elastic banded together). Then some other w*nker walked by and said 'oh dont do that, sure you'll never sell the other ones ever..'

    Great for business.

Yeah, this isnt a pic of the amp, but you can just about see it peeking in at the top of the pic.

    look wot i got

To be fair, I'd imagine it is pretty difficult for them to shift a single power valve. There aren't that many single ended amps around, especially in Dublin, and any self-respecting HiFi-valve-head wouldn't touch a Sovtek or an EH with a ten-metre pole. But then again, I'd be surprised if they sold that many valve pairs to begin with.

So what is this amp? Any clear pictures of it? :)

Ah yeah, well thats fair enough, i didnt expect them to break up a matched pair really. I would have looked at it as a favour, in the same way as ive done them lots of favours in the past by various bits and pieces off them when i could have gotten them cheaper off the internet. Anyhow, no bother, I'll get something off the internet instead. I actually dont go into dublin guitar shops much anymore, becuase every time i do, i come up with another ten reasons why i hate them all...Music inc are probably the best of a bad bunch i suppose... im sure theres a thread somewhere with funny stories about guitar shop, i may start another for the craic..:)

I dont have any proper pictures of my amp, ill take a picture when i get some of my other new gear all together in the same place. Though im sure someone could guess from that picture...;)

Thats a greenback loaded marshall btw, if anyone wants 2 of the speakers PM me, im thinking of sticking something else in for a bit of variety..

    Looks like... a THD Univalve?

Bingo. Best clean, crunch & overdriven amp ive ever played through, ever. Its not a mesa or engl though, obviously. More of a vintage vibe. I love it. A closed back 4x12 probably isnt the best match for it, but it'l do for the moment. (thd 2x12 cabs cost like 1100 in musician inc! though they do sound f*ckin brill..)

Everest music in bray might sell single valves. I think they always stock a fair few.......

    Doesn't Maplin sell tubes...

Someone else suggested maplin, but i wandered in on saturday and they didnt, (or not that they knew of anyway).

I have some coming from the internet instead, just would have been handy to pick some up at the weekend.

Never been to Everest music, must have a look next time im in bray.

Forget Maplins. KCANOStubes.com is a great site. They ship very fast. I've used them in the passed. Unless oyu enjoy paying too much for your valves then I'd say steer clear of maplins and Irish stores in general. Woeful selection here for the most part anyway.

Totally agree with you, online is the way to go as usual. Sometimes I get fed up waiting on things to arrive from the internet though..at times like those im not too pushed about the irish prices. Fast shipping is all well and good, but sometimes you want something NOW:D
