He should have gotten longer than 3 years.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 86 ✭✭toString

There has got to be a better punishment for him and others, better than just giving him and others like him 3 years and putting him on a register, they should be tortured somehow indefinetly.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,715 ✭✭✭Nalced_irl

Think about it. He was gonna be done for child rape, which he would have got the firing squad for....he paid £1,000 (which he can easily afford) to the 2 families of the children he raped and his charges were dropped from rape to molestation (in my mind, the same thing) and he goes from the death sentance to 3 years. Something wrong there. The man needs help more than a bullet in the head, but 3 years for raping a 10 year old??? thats crazy.

urk.. too early in the morning thought that said Gary Glitter got himself a 3 year old.

im sure 3 years in a vietnamese prison is punishment enough, i doubt theyll take kindly to paedos there...

Oh please, he should've got a bullet to the head.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 512 ✭✭✭Drax

Heard this morning he will be out by Christmas. Did you hear the gimp saying 'Its a conspiracy... I was set up".... scumbag.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 272 ✭✭December Son

Oh please, he should've got a bullet to the head.
And i assume youd be the one to put a bullet in him, right?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,031 ✭✭✭MorningStar

I think it is at least plausable that he was set up. Their wasa documnetry about to be released just after the news reports. I certainly wouldn't put it past some journalists setting him up to make money. There are certainly people who would do this just becasue he was casught before. I wouldn't trust the legal system there either.
In saying that he should not have been in that situation.

Am I right in saying that he was threatened with the death penalty a few months ago??

3 yeras is not nearly enough for that sick fu*k.

He claimed that he was teaching the children english. FFS.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,575 ✭✭✭ZiabR

He should have gotten more than 3 years but i am happy he got some time at least.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,819 ✭✭✭rymus

ahh give the guy a break, it was a conspiracy by the English press...

Yeh... haven't heard that gem rolled out in a while. I wonder what kind of recreation facilities are provided in Vietnamese prisons these days?

LOL! Great minds and all that... It's not early now, so bang goes my excuse :o

I'm sorry but three years isn't good enough esp if he'll get out early. if he wasn't guilty then why did he pay the families??

I'm sure the reason he's in prison will get leaked out and somehow i don't think they'll take to kindly to that sort in the prison

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,800 ✭✭✭county

dirty nonce, got of very lightly imo,and when he serves his time and gets kicked out of the country he`ll be of to another undeveloped country to do the same thing:mad:

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,407 ✭✭✭✭justsomebloke

it seems by their law as he paid money to the family this had to be taken into consideration and that 3 years was the max they could give him.

anyway i am hoping that he is deported back to the UK at the end of it cause they might be able to charge him with going over to south east asia for the child sex tourism

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,783 ✭✭✭Binomate

It should have been at least 10 years. I supose at least he didn't get the firing squad.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,200 ✭✭✭muppetkiller

It's a bad message to the sickos out there that you can pay your way out of a disgusting crime like this ...
He should be locked in a room and the keys thrown away..
or maybe the keys should only be given to a guy called Bubba (Sorry if any boards person has the name hehe) :D

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 556 ✭✭✭JimmySmith

Well opf course they are going to protect their income from this kind of tourism.
Doesnt the UK have a way to prosecute a citizen for crimes committed outside the country now?
I'm nearly sure i heard about this a few years ago, or maybe it was the US.

Surely if he ever goes back to the UK he should be arrested if this law does exist.

I heard he's already landed the job of prison chef. Inmates will know their dinner's concluded when he starts handing out the under eights.

Taking steps to reduce a sentence if found guilty regardless of guilt are innocence is a very sensible thing to do. It is a awful way to assume guilt. How do you know they weren't paid by reporters for their stories?

It is at least plausable that he was set up.

Look at this way it is not like they prossecute everybody they catch or that they going looking to catch people in this country.

TBH whether I was guilty or not, if paying someone a couple of grand meant my death penalty was reduced to 3 years prison I'd be off and back from the atm before they realised I left.

Having said that, he's a filthy peado and should have got the death penalty.

several members of my family were subjected to child abuse and 30 years later, the emotional scars are still there.
paedophiles should have their hands cut off, their eyes gouged out and their cock cut off and fed to them.

No, people who rape and have sex with children should be subject to punishment.

In fairness i think they are saying there are more computer files been found now so I doubt he will be getting out anywhere early

    Its because of two reasons

    1. Hes British/Western, and his time in a Vietnam prison is going to cost the Vietnam Government because hes going to have to be totally isolated from everyone else. At the same time, any longer of a sentence would have resulted in him possibly being transfered to England and I dont think the British want that
    2. Because of his 'supposed celebrity status' which means that media attention is such that 3 years will have him in and then kicked out of Vietnam ASAP like he was in Cambodia

  • Hosted Moderators Posts: 7,486 ✭✭✭Red Alert

he openly admits molesting children practically, not even disguising it like Wacko Jacko. i'd be more comfortable if he got the firing squad.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,783 ✭✭✭Binomate

Eh, 'Whacko Jacko' was rightfully found not guilty. There is no disguising anything. Glitter needs help, not a firing squad.

It is at least plausable that he was set up.

Come on, the guys got form, I don't believe for one second he was set up.

Closer to home, the average sentence in Ireland for a paedophile is 4 years. Sentenced to 4, out in 2.5, no treatment and they're back on the streets. Wonderful isn't it?

He's got form for images on a PC, not molestation.

I believe he's molested kids but he hasn't been found guilty of that before today.

In my opinion, for the crimes he was convicted of today, 3 years is nowhere near enough. Morningstar makes the point that it may have been a set up and that's true, it may have been, but for someone with his background and reputation to allow themselves to get in to that situation they would have to either be incredibly naive or be up to no good. I do not think he is that naive.

Hopefully he'll get working on some new material while he's in there.

Come to Ireland Gary, I want to rock out again

£ years in a vietnamese prison is a lot worse than over here in ireland. With any luck he'll be castrated by other inmates

Actually, 3 years is the lightest sentence he could recieve, he could have gotten much more tbh, and i wish he had.

Plausible is the story about him being set up, but i don't give a flying fúck any paedo who is up infront of a judge should get no less than 15 years for being such a sick twisted little *bleep* not gonna rant on about em coz i really really hate rapists and paedos.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,746 ✭✭✭0utshined

paedo who is up infront of a judge after acting on their impulses should get no less than 15 years

Fixed for me. I think it's an illness but if they don't act on their impulses I'm not going to judge them.

Edit: Damn, when did I become such a liberal?

I read somewhere that he didn´t rape them at least didn´t penetrate them .. he still is a sicko

Lmao but sorry, is that the understatement of the century or what?
He should by rights - get No f'in years.
If it was my decision all together, he'd be chucked down in a big dark hole with those big flesh eating buggers out of the Decent

Dirt particles like him deserve no mercy.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 9,230 ✭✭✭OLDYELLAR

he should be put down that is all.

    He deserved the death penalty.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,805 ✭✭✭Setun

When I saw the footage of him he did look mentally unstable, pretty much insane actually. I don't really agree with the death penalty, but Glitter deserved a whole lot more than 3 years. It's predicted he could be transferred or let out on parole a lot earlier aswell.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 806 ✭✭✭Atrocity

I was worried he was going to get off scot free. It seems that the prosecutor attorney dropped the ball on a few key facts, but internal affairs were really crawling up his ass. He got the result in the end, HE ALWAYS GETS RESULTS

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,953 ✭✭✭blu_sonic

The max sentence he could get was 7 years

Right, and remind me of what it is that gives you or anyone the right to decide who lives and who dies again please?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,579 ✭✭✭Pet

I think it's an illness but if they don't act on their impulses I'm not going to judge them.

But even if he "only" looked at child porn, that's still a sick crime and deserving of punishment. It isn't child abuse or rape, but those images had to come from somewhere, and child porn feeds into the child sex trade and still involves children suffering.

So, he needs psychiatric help, yes, but he also deserves punishment. And he deserves a lot more than 3 years, especially as a repeat offender.

That said, I'm not liking the overly emotional reaction from the posters in this thread who are clamouring for his head in a basket. He needs to be made an example of, but not in a reactionary way. It'll just drive the whole thing even further underground.

We're voicing our opinion. Our opinion is that child rapists should be put to death. It's called freedom of speech. (Something YOU profess to hold dear.)
