Can Someone Tell Me What Information your Credit Card Number Holds

    Hi there,

Simple question, when you input your credit card number on a website, what information does it give to the merchant. Is it just your name, or does it also supply your address and other details also? I would have thought that if your number provided your address there would be no need for you to fill in your address details seperately??

Also would these new 3V cards be the exact same or do they only contain your name as opposed to further details?

Any advice would be much appreciated.

    Thanks

Yeah but some people use completely different addresses for billing and dispatch to. For example, when I was in College buying stuff online, my billing address home was still registered as the parents address but I got the company to mail it to the address I was staying at term time...

I don't think (although I can't guarantee) that 3v vouchers don't contain any information about you as they're sold in a way not dissimilar to phone top up vouchers..

    Thanks for the advice.

I know that you are given the option to enter a different delivey address, but I was wondering if they knew your billing address automatically. And if so, why would you have to enter it.

Any more advice would be much appreciated, especially on the 3V front.

the way cc verification works is by using the cc's billing information to cross check the identity

given the idea that if you are who you say you are then you will know what address your card is being billed to.

afaik the 3v cards require an address for corresponand purposes (haven't looked into it though).

as far as im aware (without having to research it) cc companies do not give out your information unless there is a dispute with a party, so you should be protected under the data information act.

someone can correct me if im wrong..
    hope it helps.

all of you information is held on ur cc number.

The first 4 digits indicates the type of card you hold and what bank you hold it with.

*by type i mean grade of card not whether its mastercard or visa!*

The other 12 hold all your other information but can only be acessed by an outside party if u have 1) ticked a box that agrees to their terms and conditions which say they can acess that information. or 2) if the company you have used ur cc with has a legal valid argument that concerns the cc.

But a company couldn't work out anything aside from the cc type and the bank unless it goes to the bank.
