    Hi,

read through the sticky on buying cameras online.

Camera I'm looking at is pretty much same price on technikdirekt.de and pixmania.com including delivery.

I see that a lot of people wouldn't recommend pixmania service.

What about technik...what do people think of them.

Can get English manual online if required.

I looked at both these recently, then went with Ac-Foto.com who were by far the cheapest for what i wanted. However, I got a French, German and Italian manual for my 350D, boo. Downloaded one online in English but its not the same. Would like the pocket manual in english.

Tecknik are fine , I have a gotten a couple of big orders from them and the service is good , no problems , they will ask for Photo ID and proof of address when you place your first order but thats all.

Will Technik deliver to a different address than your own.
I'm never home during day and would like the camera delivered to work.

TechnikDirekt are fine and reliable, usually deliver in about 5 days or so. The manual will be german however. Don't know about Pixmania. You can download the english one from the web, but as somebody else said, it's a bit of a pain not having one you cann carry around.

I bought my 350d last month from technik and got a german manual. go to http://www.canon.co.uk/Support/User_Manuals/index.asp and there are details on how to get the english manual packs. I bought mine for 12£ and got it 4 days later. Couldnt be happier.

Not necessarily .. it depends on the camera. I got an Olympus P&S camera from them and got a manual in English, German and and French.

How do you do this? Once the order has been made and you have order confirmation ring the courier then.

Or when should you get it redirected

    Thanks

Just tried to place the order there:

    Got the following message.

'Outside Germany it's not possible to use a delivery address different from the one with which we invoice.'

I live 20 miles from where I work and it's a good commute.

I'm not there during the day. If I'm not there at the time of delivery where is it sent to? And can I pick it up or have it redirected.

    thanks

I had the same problem and just listed my work address as the invoice address too and everything was grand.

What I did was let them deliver to my home, and then get the failed delivery notice and ring them up and tell them to deliver to work,

No probs but adds a day to your delivery time...

    Thanks for all the tips.

Emailed technik and they said you can use a different billing address than that of your credit card.

I bought an Olympus E500 twin lens kit from www.camireland.com, and found them excellent to deal with. If you have a VAT no you can enter it online and have the VAT deducted there and then, also you can chose a COD delivery option at no extra charge which means no credit card needed. Shipment is via UPS.
The Olympus came with a multilingual basic get up and running manual, the detailed full manual is in a PDF on the CD

Ordered from technikdirekt.de and received camera.
    Multilingual language for Casio manual
Has european plug but got 2 pin to 3 pin adaptor for under €5
Service from Technik good. Responded to emails swiftly etc.
Overall I'd recommend buying from them.
    Thanks for all the tips.

I placed an order with ac-foto last week ... not delivered or shipped yet but they are very responsive when you need info / update ... my order is being held up by 1 item stock shortage (Canon 50mm f1.8) ... I knew this when I placed the order ... so it may take a few weeks ... their prices are great. You should cross check with Technik some items are cheaper other not ...

I ordered a Canon Pixma i8500 and a pile of photo paper from Pixmania ... no problems at all ... item arrived within a week ... manuals in English and lots of other languages... but the power chord was European ... they shipped an adapter for free ... not had cause to contact their support, this appears to be where the problems begin ... they are probably OK for consumables ...

I have the same problem as you being out at the office during the day. You can contact your credit card company and get them to register a second billing address (your work) on your credit card. Your bills still come to your home. This way you can deliver where you want.

Alternatively just give the supplier your work address and not your home ... if you are paying by "Nachname" through the banks IBAN code ...

Nachname is common practice in Germany where they have not yet come into the 21st Century with Credit Cards ... you need IBAN, Bank number (sort code) and Swift code to avoid paying charges and you must do it through a bank with a foreign exchange ... the supplier will give you this info via email with your order.

Actually Nachname is cash on delivery (C.O.D.). Payment in advance is Vorauskasse or Vorausüberweisung, which is a common way of paying in many European countries, not only Germany, and for them a lot cheaper than using a credit card.

No problem :) I lived there for 7 years myself, so these terms are second nature to me.
