I'm posting this because I think it looks good and ye are entitled to be aware of it. The blurb given to me is:

"There is something new coming to online poker - PKR are a new poker site with a 3D poker room and state of the art video game technology combined with deeply immersive game-play.
A video preview showing off the features of the site can be found below
    http://www.pkr.com/News/News23022006.htm

We are looking for regular online poker players to become beta testers and also any general feedback or questions would be great"

Crashbang (of PKR) will answer any questions you might have. The video is quite impressive.

I've read a lot about this, I think before the year's out, we'll see the game layout change a lot and with tech, we'll be able to have live sound and maybe live pictures on the table.....

the 3dd element makes it look very video game like, which will attract game players and kids.

I would rather see it left the way it his, where the cards are more important...

I think it looks fcuking great.

Aka dead money. Is that a bad thing?

Just like the WSOP computer game ...am I missing something?

Crashbang - come on and say hello, we can see you lurking here ;)

Does all the AI mean there are less hands played per hour?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,587 ✭✭✭gerire

Vid does look good but surely all the cgi etc will slow things down. as BD says hands per hour etc.

Hello all and thanks for the interest. - sorry for the delay in responding.

The hand speed will be comparable to any other poker room - we've worked really hard so that this isn't an issue.

Culchie - the WSOP is not available for online poker players i.e. you can't gamble. PKR offers that level of graphics but as an online poker room.

If you are interested we are welcoming beta testers and your feedback will help influence how the site looks.

    Cheers,
    Andy (AKA crashbang)

I suppose the reason I like the look of it is partly my FPS (games of the shooter variety) background. I think anything with a First Person perspective (which I am assuming this is) enhances the experience. Attracting kids makes no difference as these things are over 18 to play for cash anyway. It certainly is unlikely to attract the pros who like to multi-table because I can't see this facilitating that but that may well mean more fish.

    Sure, I'll test, look good.

Are you going to link in with a player base network, or are you going to build from scratch?

We are going it alone Culchie. We believe the uniqueness of the site will attract a lot of new players at all levels. There is already a buzz in the poker community about the site and we've had some great feedback from those that have seen it. We only released those video clips last week and we've had a huge number of hits.

add me to the test list if you like, looks good.

    The more the merrier !

Looks very similar to the game engine of World Championship Poker 2 (feat Howard Lederer). As long as the action isn't slowed down by too many unnessecary character interactions between hands (e.g., speech play, repetitive routines etc) this could be a winner.

I can see my laptop flying out the window if slowrolling and exagerated celebrations are involved.

More importantly is there rakeback available :p

Will be able to give you more details on rakeback etc closer to launch
(i.e. I'm not sure the exact details at the moment)

Basically trying to get our game to as closely represent the live game of poker a possible WITHOUT slowing the game down.

I've gotta shoot but anymore questions let me know

    Andy.

Crash - Is the special rate for affiliate program still availible as you posted about it here on the day after it ended (according to t&c on the site) ?????

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,328 ✭✭✭hotspur

Looks fun. I for one would put up with a 500% slowdown in speed if my character could stand up and audibly shout "You're a f***ing donkey!" and throw my cards at an opponent! I swear to God a hook like that would have me and my roll, like all in protection though only 2 per day so choose your donkey to abuse wisely :)

    Hi all.
Thought I'd give a quick update for those taht showed an intereswt in PKR a while back.
We've been doing internal Beta testing for the past few weeks and things are looking great.
The Beta testing will open up to the public in the next couple of weeks so not long to go now.
Some other news that we're pretty excited about are that Phil Laak and Jennifer Tilly have signed up with us this week and will be representing us at tournaments around the globe and you'll also be able to play them online at PKR.
    Exciting times ahead

    All the best,
    Andy.

Have any of you been involved in the beta testing that started this week ?
    If so any feedback ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,434 ✭✭✭cardshark202

I was just trying it out there a few minutes ago. It looks cool, but if you try and do any of the facial nods/ give thumbs up and stuff it slows the game down immensly. So far I don't see myself playing on it for real money unless the loading time is quickened. I like the look of the software and I do think there is a future for it but more improvements are needed. I'm up over 3k in play money so if these improvements are made I will definately give it another go. Not a bad effort so far.

    Thanks for the feedback.

The site is in beta test and we are in the process of optimising the the speed issues that you mentioned. As with any site you see for play money the raked hands are significantly slower as so many more players are involved in each pot. That said there have been hand rates at +75 per hr in shorthanded games and +120 in heads up.

I've had a couple of PM's from people waiting to beta test - if you registered and haven't heard back PM me and I'll make sure you get your invite

    Cheers,
    Andy
