Linksys I have is a legend. It has never given me any trouble in the 2 years I've been using it. Don't get the compact version of this as it sucks. Signal is very weak on the compact version as it doesn't come with an aerial!

I also would go for the Linksys. i know a couple of peole that are using it with there NTL broadband as it is and they say its great. I use the Belkin ones at the moment and they are not that great, seams to drop the connection alot so im going to be getting myself one of these Linksys as well.

I've been using a D-Link DI-524 for donkeys, and it's worked a treat with both ADSL in the UK and NTL over in IE. Never skipped a beat since day one, in fact it's my NTL modem that gave up not so long back! Built-in aerial, I've tested my range to around 50 meters on minimum output power (don't need to advertise my WiFi to the whole estate, however well secured I have it :D).

Picking it no probs with both a recent Centrino lappie (miniPCI 802.11g / DELL D600) and a real oldie tablet PC with a real oldie PCMCIA (Intel 2011B 802.11b card) anywhere around the house and the garden.

And you can grab'em for peanuts as factory-recon'ed on eBay. And I mean peanuts: I think mine (boxed and everything, mint cond.) cost me something like £20 (Brit quids) all-in incl P&P well over a year ago.

I'm also looking at getting one of those Linksys jobbies. Can I plug a desktop machine into it as well using an old-fashioned bit of Cat5? And can I share a printer with it too?

So, wired deskop, wireless lappie and a wired printer.

It's got 4 ethernet ports on the back so no problems there. If your printer is a network enabled printer, you can hook it up to your network through the ethernet port aswell or you can just share the printer through your PC or laptop.

I use a 3Com one with NTL but having just installed a Linksys WRT54G in my Da's gaf I'd not hesitate in recommending them, a breeze to setup.

I went ahead and got the Netgear. Took all of 15 minutes to get everything up and running! No problems.

I use a Lynksys with my NTL, worked out of the box.
Girl in PC world picked it out, cos she had the same one.

You need one that's not a modem basically, as the NTL cable modem will plug into it via the ethernet cable.
