    Hey all,

I was just wondering as to whether or not there exists a directory or list of Irish groups that investigate supernatural occurences. I've seen people talk about them on this forum, but I can't remember the names, I'm interested to see what groups exist and if they have a website for viewing.

Thanks for any help on this

    Hi MoonHawk,

Regarding your question, there isn't actually a directory of Irish paranormal groups around at the moment, but that's something that a few of us have been looking into, though understandably, this will take a little time and work before it will be done!

But, as it stands, there are quite a few groups out there though I can only name a small handful:

Irish Paranormal, which is the group I started up with a couple of others, though is yet to have its official, initial investigation, though this will happen at the middle of next month. Naturally this one is first partly due to bias, and partly due to the fact that it's new and is currently involved with an investigation so would be the group that's been mentioned the most on here in the past few weeks, if not more. The group is for the most part, based online, though there are branches both in Dublin (first branch) and in London. As mentioned before, there are plans to link together all the paranormal groups within Ireland, though we do intend to do the same within the UK as well.

Ghost Personals, which isn't a group per se, rather a site a bit like boards.ie's paranormal section except much more expansive. Been around for quite some time as well.

Soul Searchers, which is based in Dublin, if I recall rightly. I haven't much information about this place at the moment, but suffice to say, they've been around for a while, and have done a few investigations in their time.

NIPRA (Northern Ireland Paranormal Research Association) is, as you can tell by the name, based in Northern Ireland. Again, I have very little data on them, but they've been around for quite some time.

Paranormal Research Association (PRAI), which is mostly based in Dublin. This group, of which I was one of three founding members of, started in May 2004, but has in its relatively short time, been featured on radio stations throughout the country, including Dublin's 98FM and also has featured on RTE's Scope TV series as well as a few other media mentions. Currently, they're involved in a lot of behind the scenes work, including private locations. This group is one you're most likely to have heard of as opposed to any of the others. I left this group in December 2004 to go to university in London.

Lastly, there are a few other groups that I have heard of in passing, or have no information on them. A couple of them include the group of a friend of mine, which is based in Cork though I don't think it has a name! The second one is called Irish Paranormal Watch, or IPW and this is also based on Cork. There is an IPG (Irish Paranormal Group) as well, but I don't know where this comes in at the moment. I really only know of groups within the Dublin and Cork areas. Within the UK, where I am, there are a heck of a lot more paranormal groups over there, though you're specifically asking about Irish ones, so I'll leave it at such.

I hope this helps you some :)

    Best regards,

    Andy

    Hi Moonhawk,

I am working closely with Kennett who's posted above and have been in contact with most of the groups mentioned above. I have also been in touch with many individuals on the subject or Investigation groups. Feel free to pm me or check out my site and contact me through there.

On the subject or Investigation Groups, I have held off becoming a member of one specific group for a long time and have concidered starting my own. However myself and a few others share the opinion that there is little to be gained by one group working in isolation. I have, as I said, been making contact with groups around ireland holding out my hand to anyone who wants to take it and open the channels between the many groups in Ireland.

Andy's group IrishParanormal.org who I am very happy to be involved with have the right idea with bringing some groups together as a Co-Op almost. His experiences in the Uk and Ireland are definately a huge benefit as we both plan on extending our reach outside Ireland once we help to open the lines here.

Could i ask what aspect of the groups you are interested in, becoming a member, availing of a service or just general inquiries?

To be honest the Paranormal section of Boards is easily one of the most valuable assets you will find with regards to the Irish Paranormal Community allong with the other groups mentioned above by Andy.

I am currently working on my own website and magazine which i hope to get everyone involved with but I will also be launching a P.I.N. (Paranormal Interests Network) at a later date which will list an profile as many groups all over the world. I hope by doing this that if someone is planning on a short trip abroad or traveling anywhere they will be able to make contact in advance with groups in the area they are traviling too - with the hope of being welcomed on an investigation, a night out or even just to have contacts with similar interst who can point out areas or sites of interest.

Its a big dream but very attainable!
