Ok here's the story: A rig built - as far as i know it should function perfectly.

    It doesnt.

    Asus A8N SLI Deluxe
    AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+ 2.0GHz Socket 939
In-Winx710G(B) Full tower atx Black case w/430watt psu
Corsair TWINX Xpert 3200c2 ddr 1024Mb (2 matched)
    2x Maxtor DiamondMax 10 300GB SATA2 16MB 7200RPM
    Club3D Radeon X800RX 256MB GDDR3 PCI-Express

Could any one check over this rig and tell me if some thing is wrong? Please :)
Im not sure about the Power supply. 20 pin male and a 24pin female board matter?

    Any help greatly appreciated.

I cant see any difference in specs between the 3200c2 and the ones that are listed, but its not there. Try some other RAM, if you have any.

Oh hang on, you got the RAM with the displays?
    Do the displays work?

    Yes.

Maby i should restate the problem....

This is vaig, but the computer basicly doesnt start at times, other times tracks "go red" in media player implying that they no longer exist, yet after a restart both problems are resolved...

I was thinking the problem lay with the power supply.

Is there any problem with the power supply that comes with this case:

    and this mother board:

Without going into too much detail, for the components in your system you want a fancy-sh*t power supply to go with them.

Your mobo is an nVidia one, and they are known for being fussy about the amount of amps on the 12V rail (the one that plugs into your mobo). I assuming (and probably rightly so) that your PSU is a little on the cheap side since it came pakaged with your case (notice the lack of details about the PSU - usually meaning there's not much to advertise!). For my MSI nForce3 I've always looked at these excellent forums here to check this stuff out. Maybe ASUS has a message board of enthusiasts too?

Cheers, I know the psu isnt exactly the best thing to save money on...
But it isnt my pc either.

Ok. Anyway, I've seen a number of posts like these on numerous message boards were more knowledgable peeps than myself would just blankly state "Get a good PSU. Get a good PSU!"

I'm sure they have their reasons. :)

You want something like 20-25Amps on the 12V rail.

One other thing check the model number of the Maxtor hard drives as well, because there is a compatibility problem with nForce 4 SATA controllers & certain Maxtor Diamond Max 10 HD's see this Maxtor link for more information you can obtain a fix from them.

Note that the Maxtor problem may not be the source as some nForce 4 boards are more fussy [particularly Asus from my own experience] then others for example I have an Epox & MSI nForce 4 with some of the affected Maxtors [6L kind] running just fine without errors however an Asus A8N SLI Premium choked on them to put it mildly.

You have a Dual core CPU, A X800 graphics card, and 2 300gb HDDs and a cheap 430watt PSU.

Which component is the odd one out:D

The PSU is crap the others are great.

    BUY A GOOD PSU:D

And if the new PSU doesn't fix your problem, all the guys who told you to buy it will club together and pay the cost of it.
