A new website being launched on 17th March will have scores and updates for club football and hurling in all 32 counties of Ireland as well as colleges and schools.55% of price of sms texts are donated back to the club you play for.

eg A player who texts gaa results will donate 55% of the price (25c maybe) to their club.So each time you text, you will get 12/13c for your club.

A great idea in my opinion

I think it is being launched by Michael Lyng and Michael Hannon of Cavan. Fair play to the lads, brilliant idea.

yeah very good idea i have to say, not only because it is generally hard to get club results, but beacuse your club benefits from it as well.

About time. Its hard enough to find up-to-date GAA results for National League games on the web.

Two of Cavan football’s rising young stars could be set to cash in on a novel mobile phone service idea.

Micheal Lyng and Michael Hannon - along with former county under 21 star Vincent Kelly - could see their project net up to 15 million euros for GAA clubs.

Their venture, gaaresults.ie was launched over the weekend.

The idea will allow supporters to sign up to receive their club’s results direct to their mobile phone immediately after games.

Each text will cost each individual 50cent of which 55% will go towards the club.

"We first started thinking about it before Christmas - we felt that there was a niche in the market, " Lyng explained.
"There’s room in the market and we have the ’.ie’ which we felt was quite important."

The trio reckon that clubs could earn up to 5,000 euros each per annum by subscribing to the service.

Im a bit confused do they expect players / supporters to pay to send in results after a game or as the game happens? The website is very scant in information on how exactly it works

I think the idea is that the secretary of the club texts the results into gaaresults after the game. This is then texted out to any subscribers. The subscribers are charged 1 Euro per text of which 50c goes to the club. I hope it works but I can't see it happening. Most potential subscribers will be at the games anyway and won't be interested in many other results in their county.

These things take a lot of time to build up the critical mass and I would expect these lads are not going to be able to afford to wait for it to be a success. They need to be able to provide something more to the clubs, like information that needs to be distributed to the subscribers - meeting place for goig to games, team information, club lotto results etc, etc. If they can add this type of information they may have a chance.
