Opinions on the best Web development software

    Hi all,

I'm wondering what your opinions are on the best software to use for the development of a relatively simple web site. I'm presuming it's Microsoft Front Page but then again I haven't a clue - any opinions would be appreciated.

The site will be fairly simple, a home page, contact us, news etc., probably about 5 pages in total.

I've done this sort of thing before using some little package that I can't even think of the name of, the new site will be relatively simple, Ideally I'd like to use a wizard or a template within a package, I don't really think I will need to learn HTML or Java or anything else too fancy to do this - is Microsoft Front Page my best bet.

    Regards

For a simple site like you describe, Frontpage will do. Dreamweaver is the best web design software package out there. You might get a better response over in the Comp - Web - Webmaster / Flash section

Id say dreamweaver too but i dont think you should splash out that amount on dreamweaver unless your going to be designing alot, dont know what you pay now for dreamweaver but i paid nearly a grand for mx when i bought it a few years back.

If its just plain old html then frontpage should do the job

If its simple HTML then frontpage is probably your best bet. if not then i tend to stick to "netobjects fusion" is is fairly similar to frontpage but it doesnt generate half as much messy javascript code behind it for simple function's such a a navigation bar etc

    Linky net objects

Going from another angle: Since you don't want to learn anything and it is a small site: a Content Management System (CMS), or perhaps your web-host has an on-line web builder..?

Something like Homesite for pure HTML or Dreamweaver for real web development.

I use Quanta Plus, which is free, but it sounds like it wouldn't suit your particular circumstances since its a Linux project.
