Is there any naked eye difference in finished A4 prints if you convert from RAW to TIFF before editing.
I bought a program that was suppose to open raw files ,but it doesn't.

You can download Rawshooter Essentials for free which can open and edit your raw files... and yes there will be a difference in quality, there's things you can't edit in TIFF's which you can edit in the raw files...like white balance. It's worth looking into and as the program is free to download you can't go wrong there :)

also, photoshop cs2. Bit on the pricey side so as dimy said, RSE is your best bet.

Thanks for that info ,the program looks excellent.

There's still something that baffles me though , i'll explain if you don't mind.

I bought a program called digital image suite 2006, it claims to be able to open .cr2 and other raw files. It won't ,so i download a plugin called power toy raw plugin by microsoft and now windows explorer can view raw files via directories .
If windows can recognize the images ,is there any other reason why this program wont load the images.

The reason i ask ,i would rather just use the one program if i can.

I didn't realize there was so much confusion over raw files, until this morning it's like going back to + and - dvds 4 years ago.

Eire, could you send me a PM? I work in Microsoft and might be able to find out from the DIS guys what the problem is. It would be helpful if you could send me a sample Raw file that you cannot open.
Just for the record, I can open the .CRW files that are produced by the 300D.

If you can use Rawshooter for awhile and get used to it you will not regret it. It's way more user friendly and powerful than even Photoshop. The PS raw still seems like an afterthought. I have upgraded to the pay version of Rawshooter and love it.

The reason for that is that there is no standard format for RAW files... every manufacturer (and even different per model from the same manufacturer) uses a different format which is why a lot of applications have trouble opening the files. If the software says it can open RAW files, it does not necessarily mean it can open the RAW files from your specific camera make and model, you need to check if your camera is supported.

Everytime i use my camera ,I get something new to think about.
The whole raw image thing is brilliant ,makes the sensor in the camera sound like a dreamcatcher :D
