When job hunting on search sites, do you put any faith in job ads placed by agencies ? (Personally I have absolutely no faith in them).

Also, Which job search sites are the best ?

I did say here a while back that I've never heard of anyone getting a job through an agency, and they were all a pain the ass. Soon after however, I got contacted by a nice recruiter and got a job through her (started today).

I will stand by my assertion though that most recruiter have no interest in you if you can't make them any money, i.e. you're just a piece of meat to them.

    I've always stuck to the big three - monster.ie, recruitireland.com and irishjobs.ie
Chances are, if a job has been posted on any sites, it's one of those three.

I've applied on about 4/5 different occasions for specific jobs on Irishjobs.ie. When I go to actually meet the recruiter, the job I've applied for never gets metioned. I think in a lot of cases good job descriptions are put on these sites just to get your CV.

I'm looking at the moment aswell and the only good agency I've come across are CPL, and even with them it depends on who the person is.

I am currently recruited by CPL. I am doing tech support for them and they are taking 7k a year for my serivce..

Basically I should be on 27k but I only earn 20k
All recruitment agencies will take 30% of what you earn, they will not tell you this. So try and get a job outside of a agency.

is this 30% the case for all agencies?

I'm dealing with one at the minute and things are sort of looking good for a job but I haven't talked to them about taking a cut from my salary.

I assumed that the employer would settle with the agency.
Gonna give them a bell later today and check it out.

If thats the case, I'll probably not take the job as I'd be earning less than I do at the minute.

The cost is incurred by the employer, so it shouldn't affect your salary. Hovever, as the fee is calculated as a percentage of the employees salary, its in the employers interest to negotiate as low of salary as possible.
