Chorus Digital

    Hey Guys,

My Brother in Law got Chorus Digital.

However it does not seem to have a "widescreen" setting. For example, while watching Sky Sports 1, and a Premiership Match is on, it does not appear in correct aspect on his Widescreen TV. I have looked for a set up menu, but could not locate a 16:9 for 4:3 setting menu etc

    Any ideas?

Does Chorus Digital not broadcast in Widescreen??

    Cheers.

If you have the sagem box, you press MENU on the remote, then "installation" on screen, then "set top box installation", then "tv and vcr installation" then set screen size to 16/9. That should sort it. I think by default they're set to 4/3 pan&scan.

I am based in Johnstown just outside Navan. Am thinking of getting chorus digital. What is the reception quality like? Are the channels broadcast in widescreen where applicable i.e. would I be able to watch the BBC channels in widescreen and live sports on sky? Would I receive the analogue service in addition to the digital or are they separate? Any advice you can give would be appreciated.

If you are talking about Digital MMDS:

    1) The quality is OK or if signal/install poor then picture freezes.
    2) Often the Chorus uses Analog feeds so no Widescreen on BBC/ITV
    3) Sky & RTE might be WS
    4) Often you get the rotten analog service too (poor picture)

The analog service may be axed soon to give more digital channels.

Unless you really really want C4 and can't order a UK FTV card to an NI or UK mainland address, then a FTA Digital Satellite is better pictures and free per month.

Sky Digital is about the same price as Chorus and much better range of channels from 21 Euro to 62 Euro depending on package. Real WS and more reliable. If you cancel Sky after the inital minimum period you still get all BBC & ITV and about 30 decent TV 70 Radio. Free. You own the grar from day1.

Chorus may improve now that UPC has bought them.

Tried ringing, but no luck on when it might be. Even if they told me when there might be a chance of getting digital mmds, the only other competion is Sky of course, but i like been able to get ch. 4 at the moment.

My sister-in-law got Chorus digital, she lives in Malahide. I told her that this would be a big step up in quality from the analogue service she was watching; having recently got a new plasma screen, the poor analogue quality was being magnified. I was wrong.

The digital is a bit better, but really it's very poor compared to Sky digital which I use; I was really shocked at how bad it is, just fuzzy. It has a sagem box and it says signal "too low", but I doubt whether that's the underlying cause, as (at least on satellite) poor quality manifests as pixellation or freezing, not fuzziness.

    Have I got this wrong?
