I see in the Buy and Sell someone is selling a mid eighties Pug 604 GTi. I think this model has a 2.8 litre V6 engine. A rare car when new and when was the last time anyone saw one. I am not really a big fan of the 604s styling, still it's a pretty cool and undoubtedly a big comfy cruiser. I found a good webpage which has pics of a nice GTi (and a 505 V6 and various other Pugs) but now I've forgotten the URL and can't find it in google  [edit] found it :)

French bouncy castle luxeurobarge with added poke!

That engine was the PRV6 'Douvrin'. A bit wheezy I suspect. Was'nt that engine used in a Talbot Solara?

I quite like the 605 on that site Brian, can't say I'm a big fan of the 604 shape

I admire and quite like the Peugeot 504, 305, 505 and 604 however I'm not mad about the styling of any of them and think the interiors are plain. I think the later 205 and 405 look great though. The 205 still looks neat and modern to me yet is 23 years old this year.

I was considering this one a few weeks ago for sale on Ebay France - it sold otside the auction though.:(

If I had not got a 504 already the 604 would be a definite peospect for purchase. It was the last French car I ever really liked.

The thing I find most appealing about large peugeots such as the 404, 504 and 604 is that they are just about the most comfortable car anyone could hope for without going to the complex extremes as Citroen to achieve the same result.

Absolutely. Peugeots of this vintage had probably the best steel sprung chassis on the market in terms of ride/handling compromise. Only Jaguar's XJ truly rivalled the 604 for ride.

Rolls Royce were too floaty and used all that "complex" Citroën nonsense :)

I remember those 604s. Same engine as Renault 30 and Volvo 265. Usually camshafts noisy. Used to shut them up by reprofiling with an angle grinder.
Lasted long enough to get them through an aucton.

604s are extremely rare here. There was one for sale on ebay in the states a while back. It had adapted the contemporary Mercedes S Class wiper system. As regards the 504 , it is still being built in argentina but no longer in Kenya as production stopped a few years ago.

The 205 is still made in Iran

    Chauffe, Marcel, chauffe!

I've always liked the 604. My strongest memories are of them overtaking us at speed in style on the Autoroute

They're still about in France. Can't remember the last time I saw one here...

I do remember that back in the late 70s, early 80s, one could buy a low mileage 4 year old one for less than 10% of the new price. That's the highest depreciation I have ever seen. Would have made a bargain for someone rust-proofing it and putting it into long term storage for it to emerge now as a classic :)

The V6 PRV was originally a 2.7 and was used in the Talbot Tagora. Nice too, anyone remember that one?

Above 2.8 engine in OP was the 80s replacement used in the 604GTI

The 2.7 / 2.8 PRV engine was also used in a host of other cars including the Renault 30, some Volvos and the Renault Alpine A310/A610  and the DeLorean

Nearly a million PRV engines were produced

If I remember rightly Jeremy Clarksons dad ran a 604 for a few years. The young JC was impressed by its leccy windows! :)
