Hey, I'm off to Matagorda in Lanzerote for a week. Anyone ever been there? Anything worth seeing? I would be interested in doing a good bit of water sports and as much lounging on the beach as possible. Anyone know of any good beaches?

By good beaches I mean, good for young people, no naked old men that stare and as few of the brown leather skinned people as possible!

Nice one, can you recomend any bars or clubs? Any good places/beaches during the day?

The beaches in Lanzarote are mainly grey volcanic sand - if you want a traditional sandy beach, you'd nead to rent a car to head to Papagayo beach (although IMHO it's not worth the trip... just get grey!!!)

I've never stayed in Matagorda as I found it too quiet (although my parents love it) but all the action you'll need is in Puerto Del Carmen New Town. Charlies Bar seems to be a v. popular spot & there's a great Irish bar about 50m away on a side street called The Bodhran.

If you can drive, rent a car with a/c & do your own tour of the island - 2 days will get you around all of the attractions incl. Timanfaya, El Golfo, Jameos del Agua, the Cesar Manrique house & the Mirador del Rio. I'd avoid the boat trip to Fuerteventura... nothing to see there, move along!
