Just bought Battlefield 2 today and couldn't be more pleased. Except for one major problem.

Has anyone experienced "mouse lag" with this game? I'm sure that those who have UT2004 will know what I'm talking about, as I had the same problem in that game. However, I managed to get that fixed...eventually.

The mouse just stops responding for a few seconds quite often. The game doesn't crash or otherwise stop working, but for example say I'm walking. Suddenly if I try to change direction via the mouse I can't move, I just keep going. This lasts a few seconds and as I said, happens often enough to cause problems.

So, does anyone have any ideas of how to resolve this? I'd hate for this to become another UT2004.
I'm using dial-up so a solution that does not involve a (large) patch would be best. If not, then I'll just have to use the college connection.

Do you have a wireless mouse?

    Nope. Usb.

Well apparently the patch is over 80 MB. So, it's a no-go. It's not going to happen at college and using dial-up at home...well I think it's obvious that that's not a viable option.

So it looks as if I need a patch-free solution after all.

"Mouse lag" is not a thing as far as I know...

Its most likely one of several other things:

    -Borked Graphics
    -Borked CPU
    -Borked Network
    -Borked mouse

    Borked means kinda broken btw...

If you're using dial up then thats almost certainly going to cause problems...I dont actually know if the game will even run on a modem.

    Whats your system spec?

Finally, the patch is over 300meg, not 80. Whatever patch you're thinking of, its not the one you want. And you have to have it to play online.

i dont see how you can play on dial up... you wold be "warping" and lagging all over the place..

plus the simple fact is any server worth their salt has ap ing limit of 200-250
and dial up just wont cut the mustard. you will find yourself getting auto-kicked a lot.

    Well surprise, surprise it's working.

Changed the resolution to one with a 70Hz refresh rate, seems to have done the trick.

I'm well aware that I won't be able to play with dial-up (ah for the golden days of Quake), but I'm pretty happy just using the bots and on LAN. And I'm well aware of the condition of the bots.
Finally, the patch is over 300meg, not 80. Whatever patch you're thinking of, its not the one you want. And you have to have it to play online.

I think it was an incremental patch, or something of the like. Perhaps from 1.12 to 1.2
So I need it to play online? Doesn't surprise me. Hmm, I'll have to find some way to get it then.

Anyway, thanks for the advice everyone.
