I'm suprised Micah Richards has been left out for Danny Mills who has been out for almost 4 months. He'll be know where near fit and facing harry kewell.

will be a tough game for liverpool.Interesting to see J Kromkamp play as a right winger with gerrard moving back to the middle of the park after the terrible injury during the week.

Was convinced he was gonna screw it up. Good goal though.

He just had a header cleared off the line too.

HT 1-0. Man City doing very, very little.

If you have Sky you can tune it in. To tune in go to "Add Channels", and put in the following, 10803 , H, 22000, 5/6.

Knee Injury I think they said.
Class save by Pepe, if crouch or morientes had put away their chances the game could be over now...

I dunno why Rafa is persisting with Mori at this point, he never shows conviction in his attacking play.

Crouch off, it should have been Nando. Still Luis Garcia may spark something.

Gerrard injured and making sure Sven can see him! ;)

WTF? Harry off and Traore on. Talk about trying to spin out ones resources.

Where's Robert Fowler today? Is he still not fit or picked up a niggle?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 907 ✭✭✭tibor

There was an agreement between the clubs for Fowler not to play.

A pity but I guess Rafa did'nt think he'd be needed!

Game over 54 points from 27 games level with Man Utd for a few days anyway.

Slightly harsh but I can see where you are coming from.. Crouch had two every good efforts - one hitting the cross bar and the other barely wide from a nice flick.. Morientes was everywhere again and it seems that him and Crouch are developing a better understanding.

Am I right in thinking that he has not played Crouch and Folwer together yet?

yeah it's good see mori starting to work harder but I think its too little too late..he needs to go in the summer!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,935 ✭✭✭eyerer

hmm maybe hes working harder now (which i've also noticed) because he knows his number is up. ditto cisse, i.e. number is up.
i really hope rafa brings in a top draw striker and that right winger for next season. right midfield has been a problem for too long.

for those that saw the game, was stevie better for being back in the middle?

Good win. Seemed to have improved our form in matches coming of the champions league.

Should of wrapped it up earlier. Had some good chances but didnt get the break. Crouch was excellent, some great touches and linked up well with people. Nando worked his socks off aswell. Seriously lacking confidence infront of goal though. Agger was a bit rusty, a few passes went astray. But i dont expect him to be up with the pace of it.

Hopegfully alonso injury isnt to bad. Cant afford to lose another midfielder now.

Both of bartons tackles were a disgrace aswell.

despite three wins on the bounce in the prem am at my least optimistic all season. Just not scoring enough.

great comfort to be taken in the fact that we're winning games like this, but scoring the killer goal is clearly a major problem, and it could be the problem that ends the champions league run next week : /

but the building blocks for great success over the next few years is certainly there, complacency is being stamped out.

    1-0 to the Liverpool?

Indeed, we're the new (old) Arsenal. Just watched the MOTD feature, Barton should have gone for the attack on Agger. Crouches heel shot was so close, he looked the full Monty with a number of different shots and neat touches.

The continued poor form of 'Pool strikers is bizarre really.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,583 ✭✭✭✭~Rebel~

As was pointed out by gavin peacock on MoTD2, the strikers just dont make incisive runs, they stay on the shoulder of the last man, but always try flicks for somone else instead of trying to take it through. This is grand if one players doing it, but both Moro and Crouch are doing it, so everything was pitering out as they would each try and flick it for someone else, only for the defence to cover time and time again. Would love to see someone like Yakubu or Torres playing with 1 of them so we'd have both options. We need someone that can create a bit of something out of nothing.

i'd agree with that alright. would be good for rafa to go al out and get a rea;lly top class striker in for the new season. we need to be able to kill teams off when we're dominating. i've faith though that we'll begin to play more and more good football over the coming months/years
saying this though, after the past few years we've had, i'll take consistent 1-0 wins all season!

Liverpool had a typical result on Sunday over Man City. From what I saw of it on Match-of-the-Day 2 (MOTD2), it was one of Liverpool's better displays up front even if only one goal was scored. Crouch, and I am one of his biggest critics as you may know, had one of his better games, just missing a goal with
a leg flick and hitting the bar with another shot. Worthy of being a striker and on the field, especially as Morientes was his usual self and thats poor. So a good game by Crouch.

Kewell's goal was set-up by Gerrard, who did well in midfield as usual in the centre, but it was Man City who got sucked too far up the pitch, Danny Mills was left stranded but Kewell did very well too finish it. I'm one of his biggest critics too but from what was shown in the highlights, he did ok, got crosses in, and tried. I think he is improving with match practice.

Its true that Man C had a few chances, but Reina made a brilliant save for one of them. Hyypia was got out a couple of times for pace. But as is well documented (and Benitez agrees), winning by these 1-0's is just far too dangerous - "we aneed the thecond goal" (no discrimination implied Rafa).

With the Arsenal loss in the league, Liverpool are now nearly assured a CL place, as we are 11 pts ahead of 5th and with only 11 games left. But that loss by Arsenal was a big result for Henry and for Henry FC. Their win against Real Madrid might have been good and looked good on paper and will see them through to the next round most likely, but for Henry to stay, the Arsenal owners would have swapped that win for a win against Blackburn if it was an "either-or" option. Arsenal arent making it easy for Henry to commit as at the moment, their race for 4th is in jeopardy, so this loss was another step in the wrong direction for Arsenal and Henry.

In terms of the Benfica 2nd leg next week, we arent gonna get a potent attack force out of thin air. I was one of the people saying that we would have weaknesses up front with these players (Crouch, Morientes) and it doesnt please me to be right. It will be necessray to have Gerrard and the likes of Risse, etc scoring and being more adveturous, attack-minded in the return leg against Benfica if Liverpool are to progress. Also, Garcia should be given a decent run out as he tends to be better in the European matches. I think Fowler/Crouch might be our best options up front.

So far, a good season for Liverpool in the league, but a good run in the CL would be nice too ...
