Just listened to Dr. Udo on Newstalk pushing his oil. Does anyone take this or have any unbiased info about it?

Yeah I heard the guy as well. I thought that Coleman gave him a pretty easy time of it. I mean what's wrong with just eating a balanced diet? I know he had a lot of scare tactics about getting your intake of various fats in a natural manner but I guess he would say that. I have the same problem with vitamin supplements - if you don't have a specific health problem that requires them why take them?

I took it for a while one winter when my skin was getting very dry. I have to say, as far as what it did for my skin, I was impressed. But thats all I can really comment on. I know the omega 3s in it maybe easier for the liver to process than fish oils [which is what I take now for different reasons].

People were commenting on how beautiful my skin was. I dont say that to brag, just to illustrate that something ver positive was happening but this may not be related to what you need for your body at this time.

    But its $$$$. I think.

I know homeopaths have reservations about FLAX [linseed oils].

Was that as clear as mud or what?

pash- food is being processed in such a way that they are not delivering on their nutritional values so we have to suppliment.

Other than the world health orgainisation stating in 1990 that the minerals we require are not in the soil due to over farming!!!!!!!!!

Also somone who is exercising and training has higher requirements for supplements - there are very very few top athletes or even just people who look great and workout who DO NOT use supplements.

Udo's oil - top of the tops for oils and i for one have at least 2 bottles in the fridge at all times.

You want to talk about scare tactics then lets talk about the misinformation on cholesterol levels, the big pharma hold on doctors, overuse of drugs, overpromotion of so called health foods disguised as junk foods.

I was on 2FM last night at 7.40pm discussing food, training, etc and i for one want the message to be as stated white bread is the cocaine of the food industry along with all the other processed junk.

Read his book Fats that heal, fats that kill by Udo Erasmus for a brilliant insight into the benefits of EFA's

What exactly is udo's oil? Is it just a combinstion of efa's or something else?

On the subject of efa's i seen a study done on juvenile offenders in the states where they were able to get the reoffense rate down from >80% to sub 10% by getting the kids to change from eating junk food to eating a diet high in omega 3.

I'm tempted to try it out. How expensive is it? And where's the best place to buy it?

Any chemist should sell it. It is stored refrigerated, so you'll have to ask for it at the counter. I think its about €12 a bottle.....

    Hi transform,

Udo's oil contains omega 3, 6 and 9. I have read some nutrition articles in the past that say we have an imbalance of the levels of omega 3, 6, and 9. With the ratio of 6 & 9 higher that it should be due to the amount of processed foods in our diet and that we should only supplement with omega 3 where possible.

Whats your or anyone else’s thoughts on this?
    cheers

    Came across the article -

    http://www.johnberardi.com/articles/reviews/udos.htm

In short it seems to say that there is little real difference between Edos Oil and the cheaper flax seed oil but it does state that the production process of Edos Oil guarantees its quality.

The big bottle is more like €25, but it's better value. I get the capsules, as the oil is MINGING, despite it's claim of having a 'deliciously nutty flavour'. If you have time to make smoothies regularly, lash some of the oil in and you won't taste it. I used to put it in hummous, but I didn't make hummous every day so I had to gag it down most days. The capsules are grand, bu'.

The issue its not so much the over loading of omega 6's but more the sources e.g. veg oil, fried foods, crisps, cakes etc .

Also there was a program on ITV last week which stated in researched trials that a mere 2% reduction in trans or hydrogenated fats (read your labels people) can offer a 50% reduction in heart disease!!!

    Take the oil

Holland & Barretts, the health food store, do their own generic brand of Udo's oil that´s about half the price.

Also, they often have buy2 get one free deals on. Much better value although maybe not quite as good as the original
