Patching failed!

I have installed a fresh copy of BF2 on my PC and Im trying to patch it without success. I get a message at the end of the patch installation 'Patching failed!'. The irony of it all is when I click ok, it says the patch installed successfully. From what I can see, there are 4 patches for the game. Do I need to install them all/in any order etc? Ive googled a bit.
Im at work now so not sure which patches I have, but I installed all 4 in order of their earliest version number.

Someone suggested running the patch from the desktop - no joy.
If this fails, I apparently have registry issues - tried regedit - no joy.

    Help :)

I found a patch online, v1.2 and its 357mbs - gonna download taht and install it. Fingers crossed.

Will I need to reinstall BF2 due to the patch failing?

No need to reinstall no :)

But for next time....you only ever need the last patch, you never need to install them one by one....

The 357mb one is the one you need.

The others are around 80mb and they are incremental, so if you have been patching you get those, since yours is a clean re-install get the full whack

Out of interest if you get it pached will you tell me what version it says in the top right, mine says 1.1 after patching with the 1.2 patch???

Your confusing the game version with the patch version :)

    The original non-patched version is : 1.0.2442.0

The 1.03 patch changed the version to : 1.1.2551.0

IN my experience the patch version never corresponds to version number :)

    Update:

Downloaded the full patch, installed it and BF wont launch.
So, I reinstalled BF, and tried to run it (non-patched as a test) and it wont launch! So I patched it, just to see if it would help but nada. BF2 has officially rejected my PC. Any ideas?

What exactly happens Loobz when you say it won't launch.

    Any error messages?

Do you see any EA logos or anything?

Just get the initial BF2 logo, it disappears, screen goes black for about 2 seconds, then back to desktop. No messages.

Have you verified that you have a gfx card that's supporterd by BF2?

Can you delete the 'BF2' dir in /my docs/ please. It won't do any harm to the install.

Did you have a no cd installed? If so remove it fully before patching or reinstalling.

I have an x1800xl. Shouldnt think its a compatibility issue. The game ran before I tried patching. Will try deleting the BF2 dir.

If it was working before and not working now then there's a chance that it didn't uninstall properly the first time.

This page explains how to do it manually...
