Well got it fixed.....got lucky. For those that may get same problem: put box in standby and unpluged at ,aims, wait ~1min, plug back in again, wait for reboot and switch on from standby. Got lucky, hard drive was ok. If unlucky enough that does not work (my next step)......

Sky+ stuck in "standby", unable to record, loss of output to other sets.

Following this procedure may cure the problem, BUT you will lose all stored recordings.
Unplug the Sky+ receiver at the mains.
Press in the Left and Right navigation buttons on the front of the receiver whilst plugging the receiver into the mains again. Do not release the buttons until the green "play" light comes on (this may take about 30 seconds).
Press "select". The "play" light will then rotate clockwise whilst the reset procedure takes place. This may take up to 3 minutes, but can vary. The receiver will then revert to "standby".
Leave for 2-3 minutes whilst the hard drive reformats and then proceed as normal.

I did get this a couple of times recently. Unplugging worked for me too.

When that message comes up and I press the Sky button to go back to TV viewing, the planner pops up on screen looking normal for a fraction of a second before it goes back to the live broadcast. So it's like the planner is fine but it isn't switching the display to it properly for some reason.
