Calling the shortstack with any 2 cards

I've just spent nearly 45 minutes on the bubble because the short stack kept going down to the felt and getting doubled up by the guy to his right who would call his all-in with literally any 2 cards.

In fairness to the shortie, he picked his moments well, and was always waaaay ahead, but with blinds at only 50/100 and then 100/200, letting him steal the blinds would have been him out a whole lot sooner, or the double up wouldn't have been quite as effective.

What are people's theories on the idea of calling with any 2 cards. I would presume it's dependant on stack size, position, the other player, etc, or maybe a lot of people are like this online guy and are just "23 off? Sure I'll call, might hit a miracle flop."

Its annoying alright when you are hoping a short stacked player is just taken out by the blinds but is getting some easy wins because of someone doing this. It probably means that the player doing this isint very good so when your in a hand with this player later on at least you might get to take some of his chips

If he's mad short and I have a big stack I'm calling with nearly any 2. But as always it would depend......

EDIT: The above depends on my position. If I can be re-raised I may not, but if I'm in the BB, ANY 2

a few days ago i went from 160 chips in PPP in a MTT to get 8th place, all thanks to people calling with anything.

Just good variance BrokenArrows, the odds are never that bad to call a shortie if he's suitably short. It can actually help to keep a shortie alive too...

There's nothing I hate more than doubling up short stacks for cheap. If they're short then keep them short. Also if you're the chip leader and it's the bubble it is a MASSIVE advantage having a short stack there. You can basically take the blinds every hand with ridiculous overbets. The other stacks aren't calling you unless they have premiums. So actually when this is the case it's not a bad idea to double up an extremely short stack, but otherwise I think it's better to wait for a hand you know you're ahead with.

    Diathio as always, speaks Gospel.

But in general do you not think it's always a good idea to have a tiny stack at table, satellite or not, makes everyone afraid they'll play with anything. (Obviously assuming you have position on him)

I had a shortstack call all-in with A2 off against my jacks in the 5k gtd rebuy on tirbeca and when he moved in again obviously with ace rag I'm calling this tit with J4s. Am I an idiot, probabably, but they have to go broke at some stage and if you have the stack to do it, call the cok.

60:40ish, grand call, any 2, IMO, any 2 once they're suitably shortstacked
