I like that clip, GM Rhee Ki Ha in action! Me and Tim had a row over this before.. we got off to a bad start lol.

Finger tip breaks are not a favourite of mine to be honest, fairly good at forefist punching and reverse knife hands tho ;)

it's often much easier to hit a non moving target really hard rather than a moving target.

me and my friends recently built a horse(dont know if thats the correct name but thats what everyone seems to call it), well it holds boards for breaking.
as regards the question i am fairly new to MA, ive been doing TKD for about a year but one of my friends has been at it for about 4 and a few others been doing it for a while. were currently working on making videos of some breaks(nothing uber spectacular-especially from us noobs), i'll post them if theyre any use

relax.. you know what i mean.

anyways, i don't want to get into a big debate on "how good/bad breaking is"
i was only asking from the start if anybody had any interesting breaks-
eg. throwing a board up & breaking with rev. turning kick---
    thats all

Jump off someone's knee (they have to be in a fierce long stance though!) and back turning kick a board they hold over their head.

I am doing TKD nearly 2 years now and will soon grade for my Blue belt. I have only ever broken boards (the plastic ones that slide back together) once during that time in training.

Some people see it as being really cool, and a nice way to show off to friends and that. It is also a good way of perfecting techniques and that.

Sadly, I think, alot of clubs steer away from board breaking these days due to injury, and insurance claims!!!

    ok.

anyone ever break a board with their shin as opposed to the ball of their foot?

    Indeed we did.

Breaking looks cool, since Image is important, it can concluded that breaking is important. :)

when I did WTF TKD in canada years back.
we did quite a bit of breaking..pine boards.

Usual stuff, reverse punch, axe kick, side kick.
I think the most advanced i did was spinning hook kick.

the instructor could do all that mad stuff, jump about 6 feet in air, and break boards with spinning kicks. I looked real cool.

Glad I did it back then, for fun and stuff.
would not be into it now.

    boards are easy.
is there a trick to break bricks and stuff like that???

Other than that I can spear my little finger, through a beer mat, sitting over the mouth of a pint glass!!! LOL... I m dangerous lads!!!!

I don't do breaking anymore but we had a few cool breaks back in the day, my personal favourite is my friend Martin doing his off the wall break - http://www.nuigalwaytkd.com/movies/MartyBreak.mpg , I have a boring enough one here http://www.nuigalwaytkd.com/movies/MarkBreak2.mpg . I have broken with things like a knife hand guarding block and a circular block (inspired by my friend Kenny who just did it one day for the hell of it), maybe look at the traditional and see if you get any inspiration there for stuff to try and break with.

this is a pretty standard demo break as well - http://www.nuigalwaytkd.com/movies/JohnBFBreak.mpg
as is this one http://www.nuigalwaytkd.com/movies/TomBreak.mpg (some of you may recognise the tomahawk from his taekwondo days here)

True, he didn't really have good form, but for a beginner it was ok. :)

Saw Sam Chaar (WTF 7-dan) from Pennsylvania, USA, take off his T-shirt, roll it up, and break 5 stacked one-inch boards balanced between two cinder blocks during the intermission between poomse and sparring at a tournament (and there were no pennies placed between the boards).

I thought it was a great sidekick. With a bit of practise he could really make it in the martial arts world. He'll have to concentrate on his patterns more though....
