    Guys,
I've just completed my first drg. on Autocad ... It's a basic floor plan of me new house with loads of dimensions shown ... Thing is I need to mail it to different companies for kitchen design, UFH layouts etc ... These places use Autocad for their designs ... Any chance of somebody explaining how it is attached to a mail and what it should be saved as when completed etc ...
A step by step approach would be perfect ...
    Cheers ...

just attach it to your email. Make sure your version of autocad is compatible with theres. Worth phone them before you email the drawing. If you are using Autocad 2006, 2005 or 2004 and they are using Autocad 2002 you will have to open up the drawing, go to file, save as, files of type (change it to AutoCAD 2002/LT2002 drawing (*dwg) and then save and then click yes to replace the drawing!

VoloView used to be free, but you have to buy a copy to see AutoCad 2005 drawings so save as 2002 unless you are sure they have a copy of AutoCAD at the other end - also try a DWF (drawing web format) they should be able to view it in with an add on. VoloView and DWF need IE so not much use if they have mac's or Unix etc.

save as dxf if they have another CAD package

install pdfcreator etc. and print to a PDF - read only format

    if all else fails
Export as ... and choose a picture format if they don't have CAD

Yeah AutoCAD can only open .dwg files from the same release or older. However there is a 3rd partyprogram called dwg gateway which allows you to essentially open any dwg file in any release of AutoCAD. It's made by the people that make Solidworks I think, and best of all it's free. Anyway here's the link. www.dwggateway.com

Check that the other people are using Autocad. If not you might have to send them a dxf file.
