I think I gotta go to the doc tomorrow cos Ive got an ingrown toenail. This is the 3rd time Ive had to get this done, the last time was 7 years ago though! I think Im just jinxed with my feet. The thoughts of having to go to the Mater to get stitches done every three days doesnt sound so appealing! The procedure isnt too pleasent either, hate needles! But, I suppose it has to be done! Anyone else got problem with the toes???

Mate of mine recently went to the hospital to get this done. They made a mistake, didn't do anything to his toenails, but removed a nerve instead!!!

    Good 'ol WRH!

    Good luck!

I had one years ago and went to a chiropedist to have it sorted. She toldme at the time that if it persisted something could be done to the root of the nail so it won't grow any more on the side that was ingrown. Fortunately she sorted it out for me, but it might be worth finding out if this can be done.

If you cut your nails properly you wont get ingrown toenails ;)

    I had two ingrown toenails.
Had wedge resection surgery on both and no probs since.
They basically remove a quarter of the nail and kill off that part of the nerve so it does'nt grow back. The nail looks normal when it heals
Got it done in Cahills Chiropodists in Fairview, Dublin. The ladies name was Anne Birmingham and It cost about €100. Highly recommend it

    Ahhh.... harsh :(

My brother had alot of problems with his big toe when he was younger, had to get it sorted too. He was always in pain with the thing. seems to be alright now though, although we don't often talk about his toes :)

don't use a nail clipper on your toes. use a scissors instead. toe nails are supposed to be cut straight across the top. curving them leads to ingrown nails.

I had to get BOTH my toenails removed along with the root one WEEK after the other they were that bad. They got so bad they swelled up the size of tennis balls, not very nice experience what so ever. As jule said, use a scissors instead of a clippers and god sake people LOOK AFTER YOUR TOES! :D

Anyone ever told to cut a V in the middle of toenails? I was after I got mine big toe done.I was told it makes the nail go inwards to make up the rest of the nail.....

After hearing gruesome horror stories about this I decided to cut my toenails in a slightly concave shape, which so far seems to have worked fine.

Have noticed that tight shoes seem to encourage inward growing though.

    Any other trimming tips ?

Oh the pain of these, i suffer endlessly with them!
Had to get the side of my big toe nail removed once, got a local anesthetic and the chiropodist just cut it out. It was weird, i was watching him cutting it and i was bleeding but couldnt feel the pain.
You've just gotta be so so careful cutting your toenails. Its easy to say just cut them straight across but sometimes you just dont and then your fecked!
I heard the thing about putting a v in the middle of your nail but it never worked for me.
Im going to try out the concave cutting suggestion though. Thanks Longfield!
