What kinda battery life do you get out of it?

And how small-big is the power transformer?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,451 ✭✭✭embraer170

The base price seems to jump to €622 when you start going through the ordering process.

That's because they include a support package, just change it back to the basic one.

Change the service cover back to 90 day C&R and the price reverts to €489

Widescreen, DVD burner (+/-) & wireless g is good. I'd prefer to have 512MB and that brings the price back up to €616. Anyone know how well DVD writing works with just 256MB?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 116 ✭✭melikebanana

You can buy an extra 256mb on line for around €35 and install it yourself.

or if the laptop alows upgrade... 40euro f0r 256?

edit.. 5 mins too late... damn me and my fact checking

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,763 ✭✭✭alastair_doom

also i would have to recommend the battery upgrade... only 20euro, and suit yourself about the screen size upgrade... 14.1 -> 15.4 for 48euro. But bare in mind you will probably be using this for the next 4/5 years??

*dont think its widescreen as OP said

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 116 ✭✭melikebanana

no its definitely a widescreen. The battery upgrade is well worth it I get just over 3 hours with mine.

can you get a discount on sale items?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,359 ✭✭✭Sarsfield

And if you buy it via the Pigsback site, Curly will give you 5 points per €1 spent (excluding VAT).

Hmmm.... do you have to order through the work site or just use a code?
How would you feel about sending the code on to me as part of an experiment? :D

    Just go to www.dell.ie/epp

Your company has to register for the scheme. Although I have heard of people who have just gone in there and chanced their arms and been able to buy. Doesn't ask for any numbers or codes etc... but I did order using my work email address.

Using that site it says the 7% discount is automatically deducted once you get to checkout. As far as I can tell the price stays at 489, which is standard.

Just ordered one via the employee purchase program. Only €455 :D

The pricing is now correct on the epp site.

To play games on a laptop you need to spend well over €1000, this laptop is less than 500 euro!! I see people buying second hand laptops on boards with specs alot lower than this for alot more.
This laptop is a great bargain:D

Ordered one today, the 15.4" upgrade for €48 and 6cell battery upgrade for €18 is a no-brainer too.

The memory upgrade is a rip off though, shop4memory here i come :)

Thanks melikebanana for pointing this one out, i can sell my old lappie for a few hundred and have a nice new one for roughly the same... Happy days :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,763 ✭✭✭alastair_doom

nice and large. not half as fugly as the pictures make it look.
nice battery life. widescreen. nice for internet.

Do you think it will stay at this price or go up? I'm planning on getting one in as a present for someone's birthday in April. Should I get it now or wait till then?

Did the ad have a Evalue code for the website (probably not, it wouldn't be the first time they advertised something which wasn't available).

Is upgrading the RAM on the Inspiron straightforward? I've never taken apart a laptop before.

Could someone post a pic of one of these with the 15.4" screen? I'd rather see an actual example before i decide :)
How are dell these days with customer support? Only thing that would put me off is all the stories you used to hear about how they would bend over backwards for business customers but not to even think about calling them if your a home user
