    Hi Guys,

Eh I think my Antec case just died or at least thats the only way I can explain the behaviour Im seeing. I was surfing away and then all of a sudden the PC switched off and went to reboot. When I switch it on again, I can hear the case PSU start up, the drives spin up, the Chip goes and then it switches off again. The board doesnt do a POST and there is no output on the screen at all. Has anyone seen this happen before?

The case is an Antec SLK2650-BQE EC and its ony about three weeks old.

Would see how that would be the case tbh.... I am guessing the Heatsink isent on prop and its causing the cpu to overheat and as safety turns off the computer.. Make sure all the pci/agp cards are in corrently + ram

i've never heard of a case failing!

more likely your power supply is dodgy. did you buy it with the case? if yes you should be able to replace it under warranty.

if you no the power supply is good however, try reseating ram etc

As PowerHouseDan said, sounds like the processor is over heating.

strip it down and make sure nothing is loose. espically the processor and the heatsink is on properly.
most likely as power housedan said, the bios is shutting the computer down due to over heating cos the heatsink is not on right.

    re-assemble it.
if that doesnt work, get into bios and load defaults if youve changed anything.

is the whole computer new? or just the 1 part?
might be under warranty if your not up for doing it your self.

built the parts outside the case..it's possible that the case could be short circuiting the board somewhere...you'd think it be rare but it's not...

Cheers for the input but I dont think ts been too enlilghtening or maybe I didn't give ye the full information.

The case is brand new and the PSU came with it so it should be under warrenty and higly unlikely that this is the cause of the error. I transplanted the machine from an older bigger case roughly a week ago, it has been running with abosolutely no problems since I changed it over untill last night. When it shut down last night I had just disengaged Windows firewally to allow Morpheus to run and then boom it turned off. I doubt this has anything to do with it though as it seems Hardware related.

If there was a problem with the Heatsink surely it would have become an issue before this rather than just out of the blue. The heatsink and case in general were quite cool when it initially shutdown last night (heat was my first suspect).

Also its only booting up for abou 10seconds in total and in that time there is no output to the screen which indicates that the BIOS is not loading and a result I cannot change any settings in the BIOS.

    Any more ideas?

change the cmos jumper on the motherboard to reset. turn on, then it will reset the bios. then put the cmos jumper back to its original position.

    then try again.
