Disturbed by Sherry Fitz Advert

I was listening to the radio the other day and heard an advert for Sherry Fitzgerald acutioneers that really disturbed me.
In the advert an auctioneer is singing his baby off to sleep to the tune of ‘hush little baby…’. He changes the words of the song from a beautiful lullaby to something like this:
Hush little baby go to sleep
theres a house for sale right down the street
Its got four bedrooms and the gardens nice
Its going get sold for a very good price

I made up some of the words because I cant remember them but my point is this. Have we all become so corrupted by the mighty Euro that something as beautiful as a father sending his child off to sleep with a lullaby has become an ode to selling houses and making cash. Picture the image. As the child is sleeping he is singing to her/him about the killing he is about to make on a property. It makes me feel quesy.
I know it is only an advert and I may be in danger of disappearing up my own backside but adverts are a reflection of our society and am I the only one who finds this creeping commercialism horrible to the core.
I know the point of advertizing is to make people think about their product and in that respect they have succeeded but my only thoughts about this advert are negative. I think the picture they have painted is horrible. This advert gives me the creeps.

are the original words to that song not something along the lines of

Hush, little baby, don't say a word,
Mama's going to buy you a mockingbird.
And if that mockingbird don't sing,
Mama's going to buy you a diamond ring.
And if that diamond ring turns brass,
Mama's going to buy you a looking glass.
And if that looking glass gets broke,
Mama's going to buy you a billy goat.
And if that billy goat won't pull,
Mama's going to buy you a cart and bull.
And if that cart and bull turn over,
Mama's going to buy you a dog named Rover.
And if that dog named Rover won't bark,
Mama's going to buy you a horse and cart.
And if that horse and cart fall down,
You'll still be the sweetest little baby in town

and by that i mean, those are the words.

consumerism was already at the heart of this lullaby

I think the ad is very much tongue in cheek and although I'm no fan of the property "industry" in Ireland (mainly because I have little hope of getting onto the property market), I think you may be thinking too deeply on the ad although your sentiments are in the right place.
