This thread is for anyone who wants to talk about deadlifting. This might be good seeing as the deadlift is one of the best exercises anyone can do. maybe people could copy the format below and fill it it

    Name: BrianD3
    Weight: 70kg
    Height: 5'9"
    Preferred deadlift style: sumo
    Grip: double overhand
    Belt? No
    Straps? No
    Current 1 RM: 171 kg
    Largest plate used: 15kg, regular

(the last one is quite important because the size of plates used determines the ROM of the lift. Eg if the largest plate on the bar is a 5 kg regular plate the bar will be a lot closer to the floor and has further to travel than if the largest plate is a 20 kg olympic plate)

You should also ask for height, as that is a major part of any deadlifters chances and ROM.

Do you do any sets with lower reps? I think the deadlift is particularly suited to very low reps. I would only do a 10 rep set as a dropset.

Sometimes i do 8 if i don't feel up to the whole 10, I've only started doing deads before x-mass so i've just been training them the same as other lifts.

I've never heard of those styles before although maybe I know them as something else. What's the differecnce between a snatch d/l, clean d/l and conventional d/l (is it mainly to do with the hand spacing and type of grip?)

a snatch deadlift is basically the first pull and explosive shrug of a snatch. your grip is pretty much as close to the edge of the bar as you can grip

a clean dead is the same portion of a clean. grip is shoulder width
They differ hugely from a standard deadlift (in fact there's very little comparison) and are much much more dynamic.

A standard deadlift when done for a 1rm is a very poor exercise.
