    Hi all,

Our hoover has packed in (old crappy yoke anyway) and having never bought one I don't really know much about them. Guy in electrical store was quick to recommend a nilfisk or a miele but they were ~200 so thats about double my budget. Anyone got any suggestions?

    Thanks

Miele's may be expensive, but they'll last forever. Ours will be celebrating it's 20th birthday soon and it hasn't skipped a beat in all that time.

if €100 is your budget, maybe try power city. there's a little red one with a face on it (seriously) thats supposed to be good.

    failing that, try argos

I'm using my parents old Nilfisk which they got as a wedding present; 32 years later and I'd say I'll be able to pass it on to my own kids.

Tesco have a couple. One is about 40, one 60 I think.
No harm to pick one up, I'm sure they have a no quibble returns policy.

i was in DID. guy told me that the 1800W was underpowered and that he thought the 2200W (200) was your only man. does anyone have the 1800 and can recommend it??

Well, he would say that wouldn't he (think commission :) ) ? Our ancient Miele is "only" 1150 W and that does the job just fine.

Ya very true, "he would say that".

I know someone that has one and I will ask. 1800 watt aint bad so I assume it will do general house cleaning no problem.

the little red one with the face which fdevine refers to is a Henry. The first time I saw one was in a shop I worked in whilst at college about 10 years ago. We have got one for the house recently and it is very good. Did a bit of research before buying it and there are people out there who have had theres for 10+ years. Looks like a good machine with good power.

Yep. For comparison, I have a 2000W dust extractor / vacuum in my woodturning workshop and that thing will almost suck your skin off if you put your hand over the end of it, so I'd say 2200W for a domestic vacuum cleaner is way OTT in my opinion.

€40 or €60 is very cheap for a Hoover. Are you sure they are Hoovers?

LOL...I mean hoover in the 'it sucks up dust' sense.
The brand is Tesco and perhaps dirt devil or similar on the other.
    Not the brand 'Hoover' :)

Yeah, a lot of people who have Henry vacs reckon they're great. They also have a longer flex than usual, I think it's 10metres.
