New pick-up for fretless

    Hi guys

Would anybody know a luthier in dublin who would be able to rout a second recess into my fretless bass as I want to add a second pup (see jpeg attached).

I was thinking of placing it closer to the bridge pup than the standard jazz neck placement as in general I am not a great fan of the sound a neck pup produces. Just want to add a bit of warmth to the bridge sound. So I would need to measure string spacing at this position to find out whether a bridge or a neck pup would have more suitable dimensions. How far could a string be off the centre line between the individual pup poles?

    Any comments are welcome.

    Thanks
    Curt

Check the instrument resources sticky. Derrick Nelson (Danvel) is your man.

As for the pickup, don't worry about it. Either will do. You won't notice if the string is a millimetre or two off centre, once the vibration of the string is over a pole piece.

only comment i have is that i completely disagree, i love the tone out of m neck pickup on my jazz, lovely 'dumpy and warm' sound. too many people rely completely on the bridge.
