mp3-related problem

    Hi,

    I have an mp3-related problem:

I have an mp3 in 192kbit mp3, and winamp plays it well.

However, when I upload it into my portable player it stops at a specific point of the mp3. I have checked with a wave editor, there is only a tiny silence at that point, but it should not stop the player.
Other thing I noticed that this mp3 is heavily limited to 0 dB.

Having resaved the mp3 in Sound Forge again, the player plays it perfectly, there were no other changes. This works, but the file is is re-encoded, which is absolutely bad.

This situtation like this happened me several times.
Can anyone suggest me a software to repair the glitches like this without re-encoding the mp3?

    Thanks,
    d-!

Sound Forge is a good editor, so is Wavelab. Zoom in on the wave to 1 to 1.5 milliseconds (1:1) and to the part where the silence is. Select the silent (white) area by clicking and dragging, then right click and delete (make sure the wave is joined left and right) - Click file and save. A window should appear with the option to save at whatever bitrate you want and the method (Fastest or Highest (slow)). Select 192 kbps and Highest. This way you are maintaining the original sample rate.
