Southern Sunset, and Hook

My first post on these boards. I'm a frequent member on Fred Miranda and DP Review, but i've never posted on an Irish forum. These pictures may be of interest, they are recent as I figure there are no point in posting what I know are my best images for critique when all I'll get are "ooh's" and "aah's".

Attached are a few sunset images from this evening's sunset, for open critique. Are they too cliché'd? I haven't had much time for photography lately with exams and studying for exams (Leaving), however this was taken on a quick trip out the road to a local cove. The cove was in shade, so I went up the hill for a few sunset snaps.
All photos are with 20D and Canon 100mm 2.8 macro - I've found working with a fixed focal length lately has made me really thing about the compo.

Finally, I'm going to post two unrelated images from a trip last week to the Hook penninsula on my week off.

(An abstract of Hook Head Lighthouse, if I'm not mistaken the oldest in Europe).

A view of the coast behind the lighthouse - is it just me, or is it a bit bland? Bluntness and honesty for this one would be appreciated! :D

Critique would be very much appreciated on all of these images.

Cian very nice photos, I think the first photo is the best IMO. The only thing that I don't like, is the border you have, the black is fine but when photo meets the black border its produces lines around the photo, I find this distracting. Anyway well done.

All look very well composed, but the third looks a bit out of place? Pole looks to near to the center of the photo.. Other than that, savage!

The first one is very nice, the reflections on the beach are lovely. I really like it.
The last one is very good, i love the detail in the waves and how you managed to get a whole lot in the picture. the clouds are nice and i like the fact you can see two ppl (i think) in the background, gives it some scale or something.

I like the concept of the first one, and it nearly works well, but there's something about the exposure i dont like.

It's as if the detail in the lowly exposed area toward the top-right is completely absent, and the highlights are a bit too high. Is this what people refer to as 'exposure latittue'? Was this exposed on film or digitally?

Compared with some of your other work (and indeed the final two which i like) I find these sunset shots a bit weak

I think they're beautiful, and I also think the first is the best.

Were they photoshopped at all? The colours look so...Im not sure how to phrase it...rich. Rich to the point of suspicion, if you get me.

As said before the line where the photo meets the border is disctracting (outer glow?).

    That was my thought.

    Particularly in the second shot.

Thanks for the comments - I've since decided to scrap the telegraph pole one, and Beans - no, not my strongest sunset work by any means! Exposed on Digital, and I think the latitude has been stretched to the limits and beyond here - but I quite like the shadows. Thanks for the comments!
