I need to download a program that will automatically log how long you spend online from the second you connect. I’d prefer if it had a password before being allowed to close the program. My little sister has managed to run up a > 500 euro internet bill

i recommend you get broadband if you can. then you won't have to worry about how long anyone's on the internet. if you're on the internet long enough to run up a 500 euro phone bill you really need bb

re: the program you want, i don't know of any for dial up

500? Well, maybe broadband isn't possible, but definitely signup to a package (ie pay x ammount for x hours), it works out alot cheaper for "extreme dialup users" (I know - I used to be one!)....all the major ISP's offer them...

Don't know of any (free) internet timers that have a password capability, but if she's on the internet that much then I'd imagine she's on it all the time she's on the computer, so maybe try internet cafe software that simply times how long she's been logged on for?

Maybe a standard timer that sits in the sys tray rather than password protected might be doable, she mightnt notice it there

I've got Eircom Anytime. 150 hours a month for €30.

Been enquiring about broadband for meself. I live on da side of a mountain. Apparently, Digiweb do a good wireless broadband service. Ya might wanna check if they cover your area. €90 installation fee and the cheapest BB option is €35 a month.

Holy crap! €500 I though my bills were bad at €70 for two months which was costing over €100 for two months including Skydsl One-Way Satellite Broadband. If ye are using the Internet very regularly I'd advise getting on a flat-rate Internet Package with either Eircom or BT, Eircom offers Flat Rate 150 with 150hrs anytime for €29.99Per month and BT offers BT Anytime with 180hrs anytime for €26.99 per month. UTV also offers a package but you must change your telephone service to avail of it. If ye are really addicted a two-way satellite broadband from Digiweb would be a good solution at €100 per month, however the install in a nuts buster costing nearly €1,000.

I asked the same question as yourself a while back here There was a programme recommended but I never downloaded it as I had changed to the BT anytime package.

And people wonder why we don't have Broadband in this country?? Is it any wonder Eircom don't want to roll out it out, When this guy's bill could €40 for two months with the BT 1MB package. Nah, lets keep screwing them for Billions and keep his Bill around the €500 mark. Is it no wonder an Australian Bank, (half a world away) is attempting to buy Eircom, as they are so profitable, Profits earned off the backs of us consumers.

If she can't be trusted to manage her time online then she shouldn't be online. Simple as.

If you feel you "have to" allow her access then sit with her and pull the plug when her times up.
