Show one show both?

Playing a cash game last night, I was called down to the river. I then check called. The guy turned over one of his cards and when I showed mine (had him beaten) he tossed hos other card into the muck.

I then asked the dealer to show me the other card at which point the guy had a little hissy fit. The floor manager was called over and he ruled that I could see the card.

My question isnt this specific situation where a showdown has taken place, but more general. If a player shows one card, eg he shows say that he's folding an Ace, do the other players have the right to see the other one?

There was another thread about this generally, but the rule (in the Fitz at least) is that if requested as in this situation it has to be shown unless it has hit the muck I believe, somewhat complicating the situation.

Usually it is not requested, but if so then the other card must be shown. This is probably a 'house rules' issue.

Once his card is mucked you cannot see it. This has been said in many threads. You have a right to ask to see the other card before it is mucked but its bad form to do so unless he/she is showing you the bogey card or something.

You should have shown both cards first. I don't think you can see his other card once its in the muck.

He doesn't have to show you his cards if he dosn't want to - but he has to show both if he want to claim the pot.

When he showed one of his cards you should have asked him to show the other or to muck his cards so you can claim the pot (without requiring you to show your cards). But if he showed one card and got you to show that he was beat he can muck his cards if he wants.

Also, if you and one other player is in the pot and you fold you can show one of your cards if you like, without having to show the other. You see this all the time on TV, usually when somone folds an Ace - and flashes it to the other player.

There is a rule that you can request to see his cards if you think he is cheating and seeing his cards will verify this - but this rule is not to be used just to get a look at somone's cards.

Incorrect. Unless he folds to a bet he is required to show his cards upon request, especially if he shows one, but this is usually not done, as it can be perceived as bad manners. If a card hits the muck though it is dead and cannot be taken from the muck and shown.

in a showdown you must show both cards

the fitz has weird rules anyway but in general the "show one show all" rules means that if you show one player your card(s) you must show all the players.

the rule does not mean you have to show both cards if you show one

Fine. Have it your way, and complain when it is ruled you have to. As I said somewhere earlier (I think), it is probably more a house rule, than a standard rule, but in the Fitz at least what I said is true.

I believe this is due to the anti cheating rule. You cannot ask to see somones cards just for information. Edit: Even if you have 'paid to see'.

Only if you want to claim the pot.
