    HI Guys,
My car is having troubly starting, The mechanic said it was the starting motor so i called traynors up north and they have a 2nd hand one for €60.
The guy in the garage said he wont put in a 2nd hand one though.
Is it a bad idea to buy 2nd hand? Will it be expensive to put the part in?
My fella worked on plant machinery and reckons he can put it in himself...
    what should I do???
    Thanks a mill
    Emma:)

I have bought second-hand parts for my own car plenty of times and never had a problem with them.

Sometimes scrap-men have parts that are just as good as what you will buy in a shop for a lot less of the price.

My experience with starters (mostly from agricultural machinery) is that it is easier to put in a new one than getting a s/h one or getting the old one rewound.

It depends though on how long you intend to keep the car though!

Some starters only have a life of 3-4 years and even the genuine replacements from the manufacturer might only have a 3 year warranty (eg VW). One from a breakers may already be that age or nearly that age. If you are planning on keeping the car, I'd go for a new one.
