You don't need your P60 to claim back emergency tax.

they told me in the tax office that I did! I went to them in athlone and then went to my previous employer who dont have the p60 and thought that maybe the tax office sends it out automatically!

If you were not working between the time you received your P45 and the 31st of December, then your P45 is proof enough of tax paid to claim it back.

In regards to your question about the P60

Form P60 is issued to you by your employer after the end of the tax year.

so I finished work on the 23rd of december last and got my p45 in the new year! Does the above apply to me? ur1 in the tax office told me that my p45 wasn't good enough and that I need my p60 off them but i have not recieved it! My previous employer hasn't got it so i assume the tax office does so do they send it to me automatically and then refund all my emergency tax back?

Your previous employer must issue a P60 at the end of the tax year if you were emplyed by them during that year, its the law plain and simple.

You might very well need this form at some point, I only received my P60 for last year last week, so its possible they simply haven't sent these out yet.

It would appear that you will need the P60 to claim tax back from the tax office as per http://www.revenue.ie/services/ind_rept.htm#b

Your previous employer only has to issue a P60 if you were working for them on the 31st of December and 1st of January.

Ring the tax office again, explain to them that you had left your employment before the end of the year.

Learn something new everyday!, didn't know that, makes sense though.
Good advice, just ring them and explain your situation and ask them what to do.

You don't need a P60 to claim back tax if you were unemployed at the end of the year. You have to ring the tax office again. You won't get your tax back quickly in any case. 6-8 weeks iirc.

Your P45 will do here-just get the person in the public office to attach a note saying that your total annual earnings are on it when they send it upstairs to be processed.

I could be wrong. Revenue are one of the more efficient Government Depts (efficiency being relative :D), but a few days sounds optimistic to me.
