The stigma of Tattoos

I've been putting alot of thought recently into getting my first tattoo (its always something Ive wanted done). Now I've always gone through life hearing that "Tattoos dont go down to well for job interviews" (assuming there in a visible place).

Is there any truth to this tale or is it just a myth?

well, they don't ask you if you have any tattoos, so unless they can see it and its a big 1ft*1ft lesbian porn scene, youre ok ;)

Its kinda an old thing, 10/20 years ago it may have been an issue but in this day and age they could get hauled up in front of court to explain why they were refusing you a job because of tattoos.
That said stuff that can be covered up like back or upper arm work would be best to begin with, that way even if, in the unlikely event, you should ever grow to dislike your tattoo or whatever you can just roll down your sleeves and no one is any the wiser.
I am a nurse but have two good sized tatts on my upper arms, when on duty I simply have long sleeves on, no worries.

That said the worst thing you can do is get a tattoo that is small, get really pissed off with it in a really short space of time and waste a valuable piece of personal canvas at the same time!

Assuming you can prove that's why you didn't get the job, in reality depending on the type of business and the job you may indeed be unfairly discriminated against if you have a tattoo in view and there is little that can be done about it other than seeing to it that you don't have one in view. A disappointing truth about society yes, but not liable to change anytime soon.

I work in a corporate environment with my forearm tattoos in full view all the time, but it is a lax enough IT environment, but nothing has ever been said

maybe if u were dealing witht he public and u had a tattoo in an obvious place something would be said, but body mods are so widespread now that its not as much an issue as before
