I have a 200Gb 3.5 ide drive sitting in my pc. I want to make it portable so i'm thinking of buying an external case for it. Was just wondering, how will an external usb case effect speed and reliability? There's ibviously no OS on it, i just have files etc.

    It is worth it?

I have a 250Gb 3.5" IDE HDD in an external case. Had it for nearly a year and never had a single problem with it (very reliable IMO).
It's really handy as you can carry it around and if you need to format your PC for example you don't have to download all your favourite programmes off the web. I know an internal slave HDD does the same but you can hardly carry it around as easily as an external HDD and connect it to other PCs etc...
Edit: Oh and speeds will be limited to USB 2.0 speeds but that's not a problem as it is only for storage you use these. You can listen to music, view movies or install software from external HDDs no problem!
