My old pc has a lot of files that I would like to transfer over to my new pc. The cd writer doesnt seem to work as there are harware / software issues having moved from 98 to 2000. What is the best way to transfer these files. Is it possible to drag and drop the files into a cd. There are too many to email. Would usb drive be easier ?

Yupp, USB drive would probably be the easiest option. They're an awful lot cheaper than they used to be.
What you might also consider, if you're not gonna be using this comp at all. You could remove the drive and just buy an enclosure. That'd give you you're USB drive for a fraction of the price. Either way, you can always go with the enclosure and then put the drive back into the old PC when you're done.
