I'm writing a random-dot stereogram creation program. However, I'm one (of the many people it seems) who cannot 'make out' these images. Statistically, it should be working.
Can some people take a few minutes to see if they can make out the 'hidden' image please?

    Test Image
[warning 56k'ers: filesize is a few hundred Kb; <= 1MB]

    Thanks.

The eye muscles have to relax as in viewing infinity or the horizon ..apparently.

    Thanks for trying.
The time required depends on the viewer.. it may take several minutes.
But, if you fail to see it by all means please post stating it:)

    Do you wear glasses?
    Near or far -sighted?
(If anyone else can include this information along with the result also, it'd be appreciated.)

i can usually do these fairly easy and i managed to get my eyes right for this fairly quick so I was able to make out the "3-D effect" but i cant actually make out what the image is :o, so while it seems to work it doesnt seem perfect. sorry hope that helps

/edit as for the seond image it's the same, i cah get the 3-D effect and can see that the hidden image is the same as the first one but still can't actually discern what it is

/edit 2 oh and yeah im short sighted with glasses as well :)

That could be the resampling or imageshack ..or the program..damnit. I'll upload bigger files shortly.
    Thanks.

Yeah i'm the exact same as sephirosis, can see the 3-D effect but not the shape for the second one too.

I can usually do these fairly handy when they're on paper.

Damn.. it's originally a bitmap - so chances are this will suffer the same.. thanks for trying again.

    (ed: Nope. Not a tree.)

exactly the same as before im afraid. i can make out 2 rectangular like shapes in the bottom right, a large centred shape (or shapes inlaid on each other) and then something else in the top left. if iw as to hazard a guess id say it was a ship or something :s

I'm getting the 3-D effect as clear as day on both but there's no discernible pattern or image being made.

I'm near sighed but it works with my glasses both on and off.

Edit: Same again on the third one.

It reminds me a bit of a horrible bedroom carpet I once had as a kid — but cleaner. :o

I can see the 3d ness alrite, but there is nothing that i can make out. Im fairly sure i can see the full theing cos i have a book of these and i can just look at it, do some funky focusing with my eyes and i can see it.

Your writing this program u say? id be interested to learn a bit about how things like this work.

    Dave.

You know, the problem might just be that we don't know what we're trying to see. I've seen a sterogram where I saw the 3-D image, though it was a stork of some description, was then shown it was actually a bunch of hearts, looked again and only then saw the hearts (and wasn't able to see the "stork" again).

So what is it supposed to be?

    ed: Removed.

    Uncompressed.
