my pc is not recognising when i have a cd in the disc drive and it will not apear on either 'ny computer' or 'itunes' is there a way i can make my computer search for new removable discs or is there any reason why it would not pick up on the new disc?

    all help will help!

Is the computer picking up other kinds of discs? Or is it not recognising any? (Simple test: Put a software disc in the drive.)

Has this just started happening? Have you tried the cd in another cd player? Does your cd-rom detect other cd's?

Make sure the connectors between the drive and the motherboard and the PSU are all in properly.

If that were the case I'd say it'd be picked up when the computer boots. Sounds to be more of a driver issue.

Sounds like a driver issue. Funny, StarForce (currently linked in my sig...) can do something similar. Any games put on your system recently?

I'd doubt that it is that, and you might get away with reinstalling the drivers for your CD drive. If it's a Dell machine you can get them off their site, if not just find out who makes the CD drive and what model it is, go to their website and you should find drivers pretty easy.

no, on my pc, if the CD drives are disconnected, i get no warning, but when i open My computer, they just aren't there. A quick reboot and twiddle sorts it out though

    Is it still under warranty?
If so then get onto whoever sold it to you and let them fix it.
And don't touch any bits of it. Amazing what will "void" your warranty. :(

Yes, but the fact that she can physically see them in My Computer would suggest that they're hooked up.

    Read OP!!!;)
I thought she meant the disc, not the drive?

Which is it, OP? I'd say the first step to take, though, would be to try the driver. It's the least drastic measure.

As I say above, go and reinstall your drivers first.
