I've seen someone with one of these and they looked grand.. no frills but not the worst interface. An acceptable size too as I remember.

Can't comment on battery or build quality though.. it was new when I saw it and I didn't use it long enough. Seemed solid enough though. For €99 I'd say definitely worth it.

LOL, did some more fishing around, they are fairly bad. The screen is said to scratch easily and the earphone jack is some funny size so you can only use the crappy headphones they provide :v: . Read the review in the link above.

Read the review in the link above.
    rofl. 1/5.
The Bottom Line: don't make the mistake and avoid this player, you will find better gear for this money!

Obviously my first impresions were a bit too kind. (still though, the guy who wrote the review paid €299. Lop 200 of that and you can afford to keep your expectations a bit lower).

Ye, but quality over quantity IMO, you could pick up a much better 20gig player on Ebay for a few bob more.

    When is this on sale?

I checked current specials and specials for the 23rd and the 27th on the Lidl website and couldn't find it

Lidl sold it back in late November; I know 'cos I was away that particular Saturday, so got my kid to go up and buy one for 1/2-price (€129 instead of €259) in the 'carpark sale' they had that day in the Limerick branch. (No jokes about 'when you're too pikey for Lidl's regular prices', now... :D)

Grand sound/build quality for the money — menu system is a bit fiddly, and admittedly the 2.5mm earphone jack is just plain stupid, especially since the packaged earbuds are crap — I just bought a decent replacement set with a standard 3.5mm jack, chopped the jack off (oo-er!) and replaced it with a 2.5mm jack bought in Maplins. Good FM reception, too, and choice of recording options. Nicest part of all is the three-year warranty; I just hope mine doesn't mysteriously develop a fault in April 2008... :v:

If they're doing it for €99, buy one (though are you sure it wasn't £99 you saw?). You can always bring it back!

then again,,, would it not be worth it for the combination of portable hard drive and mp3 ???

I bought one of these a couple of years ago for 199:o . The comments above are fairly consistent with my experience i.e. its only 99 euro and is therefore a reasonable player. I gave up using it though, mainly due to the very poor battery life. Maximum was about 2.5 - 3 hours if playing mp3; somewhat longer if listening to the radio. Its also usb 1 only, so getting music onto it takes forever.

There are loads of other, more user-friendly options out there, but if price is your main concern then its a good starting point for a (relatively) large storage DAP.

I upgraded last year to an Iriver h340 and haven't looked back - 40gig storage, otf playlists, photos, video, radio, the list goes on.....:D

    apologies for going off topic...
Was changing the jack easy? I just cust the cord on an old pair to check it out. There were 6 very fine wires in each.
    What did you do next?
(I ask cos I have a good set of buds with a dodgy connection in the jack which I'd love to be able to replace)

    I'd stay away from these...

I bought one about 2 years ago when they were €199...the battery life is very poor and the main joystick control went terrible after a few weeks. The screen also has a poor life and scratches easily.

Mine ended up breaking, the thing just turned off one day and wudnt come back on, this was after about 4 months. I got a refund off aldi
