I found a phone during a Metallica concert, went to all the trouble of contacting the owners (in the North), safely wrapping said phone up for posting, and sending it off on my own dollar, and got no thanks, nothing.

    Last time I help someone.

ah nice one, it really does make a difference when things like that happens. One night i was out and my bag got knicked. Next day i got a call from a girl in clearys who found my bag and wallet ( with cards and licence!!! in it), and she went out of her way to track me down to tell me. I thought that was really nice.

This happened last week to me, I would like to say thanks to that random girl that found it, rang mother, had a chat with her and then realising that she knows none of my friends, looked in my recieved calls and called the girl I live with to get in contact with me. She met up with me later and gave it back.
I hadn't even noticed I had lost it all day,
    Thanks!

I've lost my wallet twice and both times it has been handed into a bank by some wonderful individual and ended up back in my hands with all the money and cards still inside.

Thank you, whoever you are, mysterious helpful strangers.

Fair play to you. But not all people are like that. Take for example, my uncle. He is a bus driver. He found a woman's purse on the bus, she had got off. He came to the terminus, and checked the bus. He found it and opened it. There was, I think €1500 in it. So he radioed back to the garage to tell the controller that if anyone had rings in that says they lost a purse, that he had it. Anyway, she did ring in. He met her at his next journey, she got on the bus and said "Do you have my purse?" He said that he did and gave it to her. She got off the bus and never even thanked him.

He could have kept the money and not said anything, and could of used the excuse that a passenger must have found it an taken it. But he didn't. And he got no thanks for it. Some people are just ignorant.

Fair play to the poster for thanking the person and for giving them a few euro. Know you did deserve to find your phone, you are a decent person:) .

Nice one, good to hear that some decency still exists and fair play to you for giving the reward. Nobody ever came forward with any of the phones I lost  .

By the way how did your da ring you on your way home if you didn't have your phone?

Dont be stupid, you did a good deed, I'll thank you for that at least. The more who act like this the better chance you have of geting you phone back next time.

I have done the same. Was offered a pint in return.... lol

I found a wallet with $15,000 and passport etc in Dublin Airport. Handed it in to Airport Police. I checked after the required 90 days - it was claimed but I heard nothing since even though my details were recorded. I would have liked to be thanked! :(

Thats a good point, I have the same. I probably should change it just incase some hot girl picks up my next lost phone and ends up ringing my "Mammy."

Women who like you will go through your phone if you allow it into their hands. It's a modern-day equivalent of flicking through your wallet while you're on the toilet, to scope out what you're about, and what other women you have on the go.

Use sensible names for acquaintences and nicknames for good friends and family, and you can't go wrong :)

I have been posting on Boards for about a year and a half now and have always found people to be really helpfull and a great bit of karma, help someone & someone might help you. (Jaysus, sounding a bit like "My name is Earl")

Anyway, I set up tyhe above Posting Name as 2 jobs have come up in work and I reckoned I would post them up on Boards on behalf of the company before the national adverts go out - give the Boards people a heads up on them.

What goes and happens? Cynical minded thread spoilers attack from all angles, not a single constructive comment from them, nothing but distrust & cynicism all round. The really annoying part is not one of them knew a thing about my industry!! Put people who might have been interested right off I would say.

Has rocked my faith in the Boards Ethos a little I would have to say.

there are Good People in the World. I left my Phone on a Bus about a year ago, and when i rang it, it was found by a Girl called Emma, she worked in the Old Dun-drum shopping center and we aranged to meet there the next day.

And Fair play to her, the Phone was there, and she never used any of the Credit, and refused my reward money!

so to reiteraite, Yes, i have faith in mankind, mostly...

Hmm, worst thing that has happened to me along the lines of people helping me would have to be the time I was going past brown thomas in grafton street, I had a load of clothes in my bag as I was going to get the LUAS as I was staying in a friends. And sure enough, my bag opened and nearly all of the clothes came out(thank christ the boxers and stuff were in a different part of the bag), but some lovely girl helped me get all the clothes and stuff, and back in my bag.

    Thank you mysterious sexy girl!!!!!

Ive ran after people after seeing them drop their phone, never been thanked oddly enough.Next phone I see dropped, its mine, I'll consider it thanks from the others.

Eh Litcagral - did you bother reading the second paragraph of my post or did you just plain have trouble understanding it? And, as you are one of the thread spoilers who I was talking about in that post, you know fine well that I have already answered that question for you. You just can't bring yourself to admit your wrong can you? Pity.

i was doing my laundry in the TCD laundrette and had left my clothes in the dryer. as usual someone removed my clothes before i got back to do it(usual practiced as we dont have enough dryers). instead of just fecking them in one of the baskets they carefully folded them and then took the fiver that had fallen from one of my trouser pockets and put in an envelope at the bottom of the pile of nice folded clothes. made me smile

The big question is have you left your clothes in dryer purposely since in the hope that someone else will fold them for you;)

Long story short, i found a phone one time and i rang they "home" number and got the address etc. I never got around to sending it off. Yeah yeah... flame away.

About a year later my wallet dropped out of my trousers beside my car when i was getting changed on a pier in Donegal. It was handed into the Garda station in Buncrana minues a couple hundred euro (money for the weekend) and minues the 20dollar bill which had sentemental value. All cards were there but had already been cancelled and reissued.

Honestly, i don't know what to think.

I found a wallet on Westmoreland Street one day with £150 in it. Rang a slip of paper in it, who was the guys flatmate. Met him the next morning, Sunday & gave it back to him. He asked if he could buy me a drink, but being a girl on my own, I politely refused. Also, it was only about 11am, a wee bit early for drinking.

I also chased after a girl who walked off from a banklink leaving her laser card in the machine!

Was in Ballyfermot at an ATM and my mind was totally elsewhere - propably thinking about how broke I was, so I requested my last tenner (which was to do me for 2 days) and I took the card and walked away without the fackin tenner!

There were two aul ones behind me and they stepped to the machine to use it.. ten steps down the road I suddenly remembered it and came running back. At first one of them was like 'No love, didn't see any money' and then finally (after about 2 minutes of me on the verge of tears) the other one said 'Oh yeah, sure this extra tenner I have here must be yours'. Fcuking hags!

Lost my wallet with a full weeks wages in a taxi once, never to be seen again. Cock.

Don't know what I'd do if I came across a wallet stuffed with cash, honestly don't. If I found a phone I'd always give it back, nothing worse than losing all your personal texts etc

All you can do really is ask yourself what you would want someone else to do if they found money or a phone that you lost.
Personally, I would always try to return it. Just because you had a bad experience with one person, its not a reason to not return something the next time.

one time when we were young, me and my cousins found a roll off money outside a shop there was a few hundred there, it was the most amount of money we had ever seen anyway, we handed it into the shop, the owner of the shop was a neighbour of my cousins so i'm sure he was trustworthy.

another time my phone rang one morning, it was my then boyfriends phone number but when i answered it it was a girl, she asked me did i have another number for him, (she knew his name and all cos she has rang his cousin off the phone too( i didnt know this at the time) but his cousin thought he was with me which he wasnt). she said he left his phone at deans hall, a student accom place in cork, when i finally got hold of him i killed him for being up in deans hall, who was he there with, why was he there (he's not a student) turns out he walks through it on the way to his brothers and it must have fallen out when he tied his laces.
yes i felt like an over-reacting idiot.

When I lived in London my husband found a wallet with about £35 and a driving licence and a british telecom engineers work boots label. I worked for BT at the time so contacted Personel who tracked him down. He had been working in the same area as my husband and didn't expect to see his wallet again. My husband met him to return the wallet and he gave my husband a box of chocolates to give to me.

If I found something I would do everything possible to return it but if I couldn't I'd hand it in to the Gardai.

that happened me a while ago. i was out on a walk in the woods,k and after the walk we got back to the car and realised i hadn't got my phone! then my dad rang my sister (who i was with) tosay some fella had found my phone. the guy who found it scrolled through my phonebook and found 'dad' in it, and rang him! the guy who found it then brought it up to a garage nearby and we went and got it. some people are just so nice, i really didn't think there were people like that anymore!

left my phone behind in my local on three seperate occasions. it was returned to me every time. then again, my local is the kind of place where you can hand the lounge girl €50 for a pint, go out for a smoke and come back in to see your change and pint on the table.
