I have a problem with my dvd burner, its a plextor (px712a) i can burn data dvds (such as large multiple xvid files etc) but have problems trying to get the info back onto the pc from the disc, but this problem seems to be limited to just my pc as the files will copy onto the other two pcs in the house. I've asked around and no one seems to be able to shed any light on the situation, can anyone help? don't wanna have to get a new drive again if at all possible, cheers

get dvd lens kit, in pound shop 3euro, follow instructions, leave for 15mins for dvd lens to dry, leave drive open while it drys.Does it read dvdroms or cdroms ,ok.Clean drive tray with DRY soft cloth.

Unfortunately problems like these are very tricky to nail down try updating the firmware of the drive if that doesn’t work try the drive in another PC to see if it is a software issue local to your PC if it still doesn’t work replace the drive under warranty if you can.

[Cleaning the lens might work then again it might not, I’d wager the drive is defective partially functioning DVD writers are common occurrence]

Agrees but also one I've found is folk often use the software disc that came with the drive and install the software instead of just the drivers. They then use something like nero or other type of burning program and the drive is not associated correctly. The two programs are sort of clashing/fighting with each other?

Found it when I put a dvd-rw in not long back and inadvertantly installed there software. It must have over wrote settings that previously had been associated with nero. result was a pig of a time fixing it.

Had to un-install bith prpgrams, put the old drive in, switch to the new drive to slave on my other cable and re-install nero. Worked a treat ever since but first noticed via the same thing as your describing - buggy data discs that worked fine on other comps but were a pig on mine...

are you burning the disks at full capacity?
maybe try using up only 80-85% of the disks
